Finding a Fictional Series to Obssess over
Hello all. Not a frequent poster here, so here it goes.
This may sound weird, but I'm trying to find a fictional series to get into and need help finding one. The problem though is that I'm not very "plugged in" in the first place and don't know where to look, taking the time to sit down and read/watch/play something is a rather large mental commitment for me (I usually prefer reading the series wiki first) and my tastes can be a little unconventional and... uh... "specific." (Star wars, warhammer 40k, warcraft, etc. are nice, but they all have various little issues that prevent me from truly getting into them) The genre or medium isn't too important, but I still just don't know where to start: Any tips or leads?
Pluses
- The plot doesn't have too many extreme emotional peaks and valleys.
- There is at least one character who is a moralistic self-righteous type who cares a lot about following the rules... I identify with those characters.
- Bonus if that character an intellectual type.
- Bonus if that character displays Aspergers like traits.
- Super bonus if nothing horrible happens to said character
- The series deals with philosophical questions or commentary.
- (If its a military sci-fi) if its kinda like warhammer 40k in premise but not quite as grimdark.
Minuses
- Anything involving the horror genre or lots of gore.
- Anything post apocalyptic or that involves the destruction of society as we know it.
- [For military science fiction] the plot features some underdog rebels or whatever defeating vastly superior foe thanks to the "human spirit" or some other BS like that. (Let's just say that the Battle of Endor is an unending source of nerdrage for me.)
Any suggestions, possibilities, ideas?
