Balancing College & online time... ? (HELP)
How do you in college find the balance between college deadlines, studying and things like online (YouTube channel, video games, etc.) interests?
My son has Level 1 Autism (formerly called Aspergers Syndrome) and his organizational skills need help. We have a master calendar in full view of the family with his assignments and due dates. He has a 4.0 gpa thus far out of 3 semesters in college. He is not a full time student as his Neuropsych suggests for him to take a part time schedule and no outside work as stress is bad for his disorder. But needs us to cue him weekly with assignments and we are wondering if he is too "addicted" to online interests to be independent for keeping up with assignments.
Plus he is not interested in joining a club or group on campus. He is happy with his online community. Stress thus far is having his (OCD) Trichtillomania pop up with plucking eyebrows. He does not want an SSRI at this point and that is his decision. Is this normal with AS/OCD? Any tips? Anyone in the same boat?

Your son can learn to manage his own assignment schedule himself.
It's really important to learn this before he graduates from college.
Ripping oneself away from online entertainment to do schoolwork is a matter of developing better self control.

I absolutely agree.
How does one develop the self control skill set? This is the part we need to work on. Thus far, we are in a cycle of "family meetings" to discuss it and son has acknowledged it is an issue. But no idea for how to develop a plan.

Perhaps he can try managing his own schoolwork for a week and see how it goes?
Since he is doing well, he probably wants to keep that up, so he has to rip himself away from online to do the schoolwork.
Or decide that he must reach some milestone on his schoolwork each day before he can spend extended tome online.
Ripping self away from internet is a problem for many college students, it's all about enforcing oneself to focus on schoolwork, and it helps if he is studying something he likes a lot.
