"To understand something is to be liberated from it."
Very excellent essay AsMike.
I've had many discussions about Asperger's Syndrome and how it's perceived and handled with a friend of mine who is in their own way different. He's told me many times his doctors don't/won't listen to him about things like how the latest pill he's been given is causing him more grief than before he was given it. He knew what autism and Aspergers were prior to me opening discussions with him about it, but he's told me what I've told him has been eye opening. I was given Adderall to take help with signs of ADHD and depression. I didn't take it on the grounds that unless if it's critical to keeping my life I refuse to pump my brain full of altering chemicals. In lieu of this, I researched other means I could try to help myself, and that lead me to the possibility that cutting back on artificial food colorings and sweeteners that are not plain sugar cane or honey can help with its effects. Since then I've lost weight, am not near as depressed and my focus is much better on a daily basis. So while solutions like this are nowhere near one size fits all, I think non big pharma solutions should be pursued with greater frequency.
Thank you for the kind compliment.
I agree with you. I think the major changes have to be a non pill based way of life; One day, the pills will run out and then what? You can always pull off a band aid without the guarantee there's another one in the box.
Thank you for replying.

Once you understand something, you are liberated from it.
Very welcome :3
I remember in Elementary school in the early 2000s being really confused why my classes were being told they need to leave the classroom to go take medicine. To my eyes they were just like me; perfectly fine human beings. Turns out it was usually for ADHD meds. In more recent years I began to wonder if such pill pushing was really needed after becoming aware there was a huge rush of ADD diagnosis in the 80s and 90s.
