The title pretty much explains itself. Have you ever looked for something, like sunglasses or keys for example. And it takes you a few minutes to see they were out in the open the whole time? Or find your sunglasses on top of your head, or your keys in your pocket...things like that.

Can be very annoying and/or frustrating.

Constantly. Always have. When I was young and a parent would ask me to get something, I'd get punished for being lazy and for "lying" that I couldn't find it, because obviously, it was *right*there*.

I really have trouble finding a specific can in the pantry or store shelf - and then when I do, I more often than not grab the one next to it. Subjective as this may be, it *feels* a lot like my auditory processing disorder, which is the audio analog of dyslexia.

If I'm looking for something around the house, I've found that using a flashlight or laser pointer and only looking where the beam is helps immensely. I mean, I'll still miss it half the time, but that other half? Nailed it.

That happens to me all the time as well. It's embarrassing, as the person usually will make you feel stupid because you can't find what they told you to find.

I've been known to spend half an hour looking for something that I've already found and have in my hand at the time. Quite often it will be because I picked the object up to use as a 'fiddle stim' and didn't really register what the exact object was. Back when I was a smoker, I was a PITA for doing it with other people's lighters - everyone in the room ,including me, would go on a search for the thing, only to find that I'd been wearing the flint down on it the whole time.

Thanks, that's a great tip, I'll definitely give that one a go.

I don't forget where things are if I have a certain place I usually put them but I put things down carelessly sometimes maybe due to ADD & then have a hard time finding them. I have a low vision disorder but my brain also has problems processing things I do see visually, like I could be looking at something I can see well but not process that it's there rite away.

Everywhere I've lived and worked, I quickly became famous for leaving / losing my coffee cup somewhere...odd. Always in a very 'safe' place, but still...odd. So then half a day later I'd be wandering around trying to find it. Over the years I've learned to have very specific places where I keep things that are important, and they have to be...intuitive. For instance, if I put rings on a jewelry holder on my desk - a specially designated place for them - I'll forget to put on my wedding ring each day. But if I put them in the first place I instinctively check - in a small decorative bowl on my nightstand - I put them on in the morning w/o even thinking about it. I do similar things with my phone case; it goes from my desk to a carabiner on my keys, to a carabiner on my work laptop back to my desk at work and back again.

If you've ever seen the 1980's/90's movie Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, there is a moment where one of them 'hides' something for his future self while in the past and then in the present says, "where would I leave it for myself if I were me". That is pretty much how I get through my day without mishap.

I am constantly losing things, and looking for ages for them, and then asking my husband who finds them exactly where I've already looked multiple times. Keys are a nightmare for me - I'll put them down somewhere and immediately forget where they are!

I'm like this with a lot of stuff, so I have a bag that I try to keep packed at all times with everything in the right pocket, but it doesn't always work because if I need something I'll take it out of the bag and if I then get distracted before I put it back, you can bet I'll be struggling to find it again soon.

Something I often do is get a drink from the fridge, start drinking it, set it down somewhere, forget it exists, and grab another one. There are often a bunch of half finished drinks sitting around the house, which I collect in one place when I find them and finish them off. I always have to put things in the same place every day or else I will loose them. I also always forget about important things that I have to do like doing my laundry and refueling my car, and when I finally get around to doing my laundry then I will put it in the washing machine and forget about it until that night when I need a change of clothes. My prospective memory is absolutely terrible.
