My real name is Alicia (pronounced Al-lee-sha) I am not that fond of it. First of all, I feel uncomfortable with it; when someone asks me what my name is and I say "Alicia" I cringe a little bit. For some reason, when other people tell me their name is Alicia, I'm fine with it. I also don't think it suits me very well, if you know what I mean. Even though I know it isn't true, when I hear a name, it always bring up an image of a certain type of person, and the name "Alicia" does not produce an image I would consider similar to me. Other people have said the same thing. Less importantly, most people pronounce or spell it wrong, and people tend to mishear it and call me Alisa or Alyssa or something like that. I usually go by "Allie", rather than Alicia for these reasons. I avoid telling people my real name if possible because then they will call me that forever more.

Growing up, I always wanted a feminine name, rather than a girl version of a boy's name. Computer systems often truncate my name to "Daniel". Children and people who have speech difficulties often call me Daniel because they can't pronounce my name.

I've pretty much accepted it now. It helped knowing the names that got turned down. It could've been worse.

I like my name because it's a unisex name.

My name is Shelby, by the way.

My name is Parker, and I have never really been very fond of it. I have always loved the name Michael (or Mike) which is why it's my username and it's also my name in my imaginary world. If you came up to me addressed me as Mike then I would answer to it and I might not even notice that you didn't call me by my real name. It's pretty much my official nickname at this point.

Fun fact: Parker is a common last name and my last name (which I won't reveal) is a common first name so that does create some confusion sometimes and people have called me by my last name thinking it's my first name on many occasions. Because of this I also answer to my last name, which has also caused some confusion.

Another fun fact: my middle name is Steven which was my great grandfather's name. My grandfather was his oldest son and his middle name is Steven, my dad was his oldest son and his middle name is Steven, and I am his oldest son and my middle name is Steven. I definitely plan on perpetuating this with my oldest son one day.

I could have chosen "sort of" because I have a nice name, but I have never liked it as a name for myself, so I chose the answer "no." I feel my name is overly feminine and doesn't encompass my whole personality, so I don't think it suits me. I'm posting because I'm wondering if any other autistic women on this site can relate to what I'm saying. I definitely have a feminine side, it's just that I feel there's more to me than that and my name does not take that into account. However, I'm lucky because it could have been so much worse as far as what my name is. I just don't like it when people call me by my name, because I can't relate to it.

I've been called this all my life so I'm used to it but I wouldn't say I like it or dislike it. I would probably feel this way if I was named anything else.

IMO Alicia is a pretty-but-not-so-smart blonde girl name. She puts on more makeup than usual and likes to wear sporty clothes, she's popular but not "the" star girl.
Her hobbies include TV soaps, talking about stars and fashion with her friends, and partying.

Well, did that "not" describe you or do you have another image in mind, Alicia? :P

No. I want to change for firstname: Poppy, lastname: Fields. Joking. But I really don't like my name that I won't share.

My name is all right, but it's spelled in a way that was common in the 14th century but not any more, and most people think there is only one way to spell it. This has brought me years of annoyance having to correct other people's spelling, and it made learning to write my own name in school as a small child confusing.

But it could be a lot worse. I could have had an insane mother who wanted to name me "Cyanide", like I read the other day on Facebook. Some people said the mother should have the right to name her child whatever she wants, but I replied that the kid doesn't get to choose or approve of it and if they get a name that's too weird or has a lot of stigma attached they're the ones who are going to be stuck with it for life.

I would rather a kid be named something that's common and there will likely be other kids with the same name than something like "Chlamydia". 8O

That is kind of how I feel about my name. It's too feminine for me. I only recently started going by a nickname and my boss keeps calling me by my real name because she forgets.

That's pretty much the image I had in mind and it doesn't describe me very well, other than the part about sporty clothes.

I don't even like myself most of the time. What makes you think I like my name, since it's a cruel joke to most people.

I quite like my name because it's not common. My surname is even less common. When I die, the name will die with me.
