So, imagine that you've just turned 18, and that you're heading off to the courthouse to change your last name.

What real-life surname would you absolutely change?

Change "Lipschitz", for example. Yes, it is a real-life surname.

I took my maiden name back after the divorce,no way was I keeping his surname.
There's a family here with the last name Gash,if I was a female in that family I'd change it pronto.
Another name that just sounds bad,Fadiss, sounds too much like fat ass.

Katakotan (Unless I'm a hitman or something), Ambayani (No, just no. Even if it sounds like some local celebrity surname), Malagkit (Hell no!!), Binabait (Uhh what?), Mangaas (A fitting name for a traitor actually), Atuan (Please...), Ipilipil (I do not want.) There's a few more that I forgotten.
... I don't know, it's mostly pre-colonial surnames that still exists.

They're funny, but I don't want it as my surname.

Someone I knew had a principal in junior high named "Mr. Dickoff".

May not be the worst name in the world. But for a principal of junior high it's the worst name in the world!

Another buddy of mine from college (who's wife is now VP of sales for Tribune Broadcasting in Indiana) used to pull the stunt of calling an upscale restaurant in Pittsburgh and have Mr. Jack Mehoff paged, as well as Mr. Harry Dick.

Any name with the the word "cock" in it. Definitely going to be made fun of.

Obviously any names of really terrible people like terrorists, dictators, and serial killers.

Boner
Butz
Crapper
Dumas
Fuchs
Hooker
Klitz
Kummer
Schitz
Wiener

Many of those only sound bad if mispronounced, but that's what people do. Most of them seem to have German origins.

Really long Polish names can be bad in the United States, just because nobody seems to know how to pronounce or spell them. I'd get sick of everyone not knowing how to pronounce my last name.
