I started out as a child, at a very early age, but today I'm older than I ever have been before. When I was in my early 20's I found out I couldn't do anything for myself. I became a "fireaholic" drifting from job to job, very painful. I also got kicked out of some roommate situations, because i had some problems with basic household chores and paying rent. Then my whole life changed when i sent a tape in to a producer and became a nationally known comedian. When i was 23 i won an award for "world's greatest ranter", ranting is a type of improvisational comedy. Reviewers started writing me up as a "savant", someone who has exceptional talent in one area, but can't do anything else. Some people say I'm the funniest comedian in the country. A few years ago I started reading literature on savant syndrome and I found out it's a type of autism. I've been reading literature on Asperger's and other forms of autism in the past 2 weeks and also have met several other people who have Asperger's. I'll take an Asberger--"did you want fries with that?" I seem to have all the characteristics of Asperger's, so I guess I have it. This is all kind of new to me, I've become aware of this in the past 2 weeks. It's kind of weird, because I've never thought of myself as someone with autism before. I wanted to join a discussion group and talk to other "aspies".

What is the appeal of speaking with other Aspies ? I have to admit that one can actually engage in intellectual-discussion with Aspies, even on controversial-topics, without fanatical cult-behaviour surfacing from the highly ignorant, unlike many of those Neuro-Typical Non-Aspies, and now it's time to pull out a bit of a George Carlin with a quote and a clip...

"Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups" -George Carlin
For the most part it's been a relief that we're mostly free of those types of people that George Carlin spoke of when we're on these forums... ;o

Yeah, thanks for the comment. I was written up as a savant in several publications in the '80's, but I didn't think I was really a savant. Now I'm starting to figure out that I really am and it kinda' scares me. Although I'm on SSI (psychological disability) because I can't hold a job I've learned how to do just about everything for myself. The SSI helps because it pays the rent and I don't have to worry about that so I can focus on the comedy. I figure if I'm the best comic in the country maybe I could cash in on it, so I moved to Hollywood. Right now I'm back to being a street performer because all the comedy clubs have fired me. One woman said I was "too creative". Sorry for being so creative! I've been watching savant videos on youtube. Stephen Wiltshire is very inspiring. Thanks for letting me share.

Thanks for the Carlin clip. One of the all-time greatest comics.
