Idiotic question
OK....there has been a lot of bad news for transgendered people. That or I just keep finding the depressing stuff. Not talking about the bathroom BS. Just really bad things. Attacks, etc.
But, here is the question:
When they say something like "A transgendered man was...." Or "A transgendered woman is..." in the reports, what does it mean?
Specifically, if a person is a transgender man, that means they are a person born as a woman who is transitioning into a male lifestyle (or physical) and a transgender woman is vice versa?

Of course, the media screws it up many times too.

Transgendered isn't a word. It should be transgender. Generally the news (when using the preferred terminology) would say a transwoman is a person who was "assigned male at birth" and a transman is a person who was "assigned female at birth." There are other transpeople, too, but you don't hear much about that in the media. It's not encouraged to use language like "born a boy" or "used to be a girl." It's often considered disrespectful.

Snowy Owl answer the question but I'd like to address something else.
You might be hearing lots of bad news and anecdotes about transgenders but this is more a function that group gaining political status and equality. These news stories are coming to light because transgender people feel the ability to be more open and because localities are passing laws granting them rights (the North C. state law was overriding a city law that granted transgender people rights)
Remember back in the 70's and 80's governments were making it illegal to work if you were gay. Since the 70's people fought for equality and now gays can marry, adopt, work, etc etc.
The conservative right has lost and will only keep on losing the culture wars, their bigotry will be over a foot note in history.
