Hey guys.

So, in social situations I never know how to react to quiet people. If someone is laughing, smiling or actively talking, I can realize that things are going well. However, if the other person is quiet, distracted or seems upset, I automatically assume it is something that I have done wrong. I know that objectively this is completely asinine but I cannot help but feel this way. I end up asking what is wrong and feeling out of the loop if they say they are fine. I wonder if they are just trying to spare my feelings.

Does anyone else experience this? And if so, how do you cope with this feeling?

Thanks!

-Ryan

I frequently worry that stuff might be my fault. It helps me to talk about it with someone, especially all the reasons it might not be my fault. Writing them out helps too, or making fun of the guilty thoughts. :)

I can relate and this still happens to me and it's so hard to deal with it. I don't feel like I can help much here but I just wanted to let you know I understand how you feel.

If the person seems quiet or distracted, I don't initiate conversation and tend to drift away.
