Only people who went/are going to college can participate in this poll, I'll create a separate poll for those who didn't go.

I primary went to college because my parents are making me, I cannot imagine their reaction if I didn't. Oh gosh. But I'm also going because I want to be able to get a better job. Not for the money, but for the enjoyment. I also I like learning, but college doesn't seem to like the most enjoyable environment to learn in.

Everyone else seems to want to go because of the money

Money is not a good reason to go, but the things money buys can be. Want kids one day? A car without rust spots? Own a small house? Learn an instrument or go hiking in Europe? All these things cost money. You don't have to want every one of those - I don't - but if you reach 50 or 60 years old and realize that you will never reach a certain dream because of the decisions you made in your teens or 20s, that is a tragedy. I've seen it happen to people.

My mother once advised me to imagine myself at 80 years old in a rocking chair and think about what sort of life I would like to be looking back on, then try to follow that path. For what it's worth.

I'm currently studying animation-audiovisual (Making videos) at a vocational college and even though I enjoy it since it has been one of my hobbies for a decade it's not what I want to do as a dream job. The main reason for me right now is that I just want to have a college degree.

I actually just want to do something in the area of acting, comedy, entertainment etc but I never got further than the first audition rounds for the screen actor- and two theatre colleges unfortunately.
I am still busy building up an acting resumé and finding acting workshops in my spare time but right now I'm just busy with college where I am halfway finished.

(I would even be done by next year but my college has failed to properly explain me how speeding up works causing me miss important assignments and finally get an email that it would be unrealistic to catch everything up in the last few weeks for college, I can go on about the entire story for hours but I think it's better if I don't :) )

Anyways, I'm glad to be attending college and I have really nice classmates and fun teachers.

The systems a bit different over here in the uk, once you reach 16 you can choose to either stay on in school or go to college. Since school didn't interest me I went to college, took a vehicle maintenance course and I'm now a qualified mechanic.

At least three of the reasons listed apply to myself, but I voted my primary reason - to learn more. Much of the value of a college/university lies not in the curriculum, but in the atmosphere of a learning environment. Yes, there are many people who go there because they had to or so they could get a good job and make a ton of money (which aren't bad things, ya know), but seeking out people who are driven by curiosity will do you more favors in life than that piece of paper will.

I'm not starting til next year, but it's for a better job and money. I'd love to attend just for the sake of learning, but that's not really an option for most people in the US and other countries with exorbitantly high tuition fees.

I went, because of my parents' pressures. That, and I didn't know what I would do otherwise. My dad was a construction worker, and he'd always say "you'd better get an education or else you'll end up shoveling asphalt for 16 hours a day!! !" Of course now with my bachelor's, I can only get minimum wage crap jobs (if anything at all).

I'm starting a master's program this fall, because it has a much clearer career path at the end of it (a lucrative one, even). That, and it's a topic that interests me.

I'm going mostly because I want to learn more and study subjects I'm interested in as well as required courses. I'd be lying if I said that there wasn't any family pressure, though. Both of my parents have master's degrees and the others all have bachelor's degrees.

I will be going because I want to learn more about my long-term obsessions (space travel, physics, math, ...) and get a good job, hopefully working for a space program.

im going because it furthers my interest in video games (games development course) but im also going because i feel its expected of me, you know like i have to go because thats just what people do at this point in their life (which is weird because neither of my parents went to uni straight away so you'd think it would be normal to me to not go) so it would feel kind of foolish not too. im not sure how im going to survive though, ive always relied on others or events to meet people and the only thing i can cook is an omelette, which i almost burn anyway.

I'm proud to announce that after a great audition, I did get accepted into my college's new Performing Arts major so I have decided to switch majors!
