I’m thinking about going to a grad school next semester.

There are a few problems I already know I will have. Let me know what you think I should do.

1. Even though I’m not dumb, I messed up in college and didn’t have the grades to go where I wanted. So this isn’t the best program in the world. I’m not happy about the school not having a good reputation
2. Since it’s easy to get in, some of the people won’t be the smartest and I’ll judge/not want to hang out with them, which will probably give me a bad reputation (even though there will actually be a few people who are smarter than me).
3. I’ve looked at some of the Facebook pictures of the students in my program. I definitely have negative impressions of some based on appearance.
4. Speaking of Facebook, some will try to add me on FB and if I don’t like them, I will either not add them and that will be awkward or I will add them and feel uncomfortable. I know getting out of ones comfort zone is good in theory, but I don’t like it.
5. There’s the question of who will accept me. Until now, I’ve been talking about them being good enough for me, but what about me fitting in with them?

1. A key consideration would be whether you would think if it is sufficient for what you are seeking in it. Another important consideration is finances. It is important to get your tuition financed and to secure a decent stipend.
2. Try to avoid premature judgement and try to get to know them. Yes, I know this may be easier said than done. But people can turn out to be smarter than you originally thought or have something in common with you or have some common interest you can bond over.
3. Don't judge a book by its cover. Appearances can be misleading.
4. I don't use Facebook, so I don't have any advise for that.
5. I suppose you could try to connect to them by shared experiences, interest, and conversation. Things like the subject you are all studying, common classes and research, work, music, tv shows, and the like can be used for ice breakers.
