School
I attended a special education school from 5th to 12th grade called Krejci Academy in Naperville, Illinois. The school served mainly people who had Autism Spectrum Disorders but there were also people who had other things like behavioral and academic challenges. I really enjoyed the school since each classroom had a lead teacher as well as at least 1 classroom aide along with others such as 1 to 1 assistants in several classrooms.
The academic program was of great quality that included math, science, spelling, English, life skills, history, reading, etc. There were also specials such as Counseling, PE, Music, Computers and Speech/OT. We also took outings into the community to practice life skills that we learned and even went swimming 1 time per month during grade school. For most of my years there, we had a School Choir and a Drums Ensemble which performed a concert at the holidays and the end of the year.
There was also Summer School which we had more fun activities such as Guitar Club, Drama Group, Water Day and others in addition to the academics and community outings.
So I had come here from a public elementary school which gave me a harder time during my last year or so there. I did have a 1 on 1 aide with me that accompanied me in the classroom where I received grade level academics as well as specials. I had been put in a special room for the last month or so with a teacher so I didn't get to see my classmates that much during that time.
When I got to Krejci, everything changed. After I had so-so behavior in the beginning, slowly my behavior started to change and I became a more wiser and independent person.
So with that being said, I was wanting to do research to see what schools and where the best special education is for children with autism in terms of cities, states and countries. Do you recall from your experiences and tell me what info you can give me on this topic.
