College isn't for everyone. Some employers might request a college degree, but have you tried looking up options like distance learning or self-teaching?

Are you competent at computer science?

If so, you could probably get work at a small place where results are top priority. However, you'll be underpaid and exploited for a long time.

If not, go to school. Nobody is going to pay you AND train you too.

Depending on which area of IT you're interested in, you may want to look into obtaining some IT certifications in a particular area and they will help you get your foot in the door in the IT field.
