So for any Youtuber who have been paid, does the 1,000 views=$1 thing mean when one video reaches a thousand views then you get the revenue or once the total sum of all your videos views equal 1,000 views?

$1 per thousand views? that is abysmal. i have recieved requests from youtube to "monetize" my videos, but i could not be bothered to do so because i presumed it would be a pittance, and also because i had to "allow advertisements" to be coupled with my videos in order to be eligible.
no way. i decide what people see when i do a video. i do not want some clown spraying perfume on himself as an advertisement that must be watched before my video is accessed.

anyway, in my many years of posting youtube videos of all varieties (all are my productions except for one (inappropriate laughter)), i have "racked" up 321,000 total views, and so at one buck for each thousand, that's only $321. it's not worth investigating the potential of monetization unless you are very popular.

I agree with b9, the Youtube payment system is abysmal. You hear about these Youtube "stars" who rack up millions of visits and subscribers and are making an actual living solely from their Youtube earnings. But you would seriously have to be one of those channels that go spectacularly viral for that to happen.

I've got over 100,000 views and 160 subcribers; I did monetize my videos but the revenue apparently accrued since 2010 when I started the channel is something like ten lousy bucks. Ten dollars for six years of a site that is now getting maybe couple thousand hits per month, so it's not even like zero people visit. But you need millions of visitors to make any money.

It seems like the only realistic way to make money from YouTube is if you're pushing your own product or service through your videos.

That's why some people use Patreon and similar artist-crowdfunting sites, which makes the creators get a small but steady income.

Possibly with certain ones yes, although I've been doing that too and got no traffic from my channel to that secondary target at all, interestingly.
