Anyone out there compose music on their computers? I do...I compose soundtrack style music using Logic Pro and a bunch of orchestral plugins like East West Symphonic Orchestra and Vienna. It's great fun. Can spend hours on it. The challenge is making a software orchestra instrument sounds like a proper genuine orchestra so it takes playing around with EQs, reverbs etc...

Would love to share some of my stuff...anyone else produce/compose?

I don't have a musical synapse in my body, but when it comes to computer music, I enjoy Oliver Sabin, a.k.a. Unicorn Kid ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unicorn_Kid ). After some contract issues, he has "retired" from performing, but I suspect he will be back when he can.

I compose, though I've been doing it less and less, recently.

Cubase 8.5 Artist
Vienna Soprano Choir, Brass, Piano
I'm also using the super-old Edirol Orchestral, and Cubases's inbuilt library. If I composed more, I'd splash out for better strings.

Post some of your stuff.

I used to pretty intently - fell out of love with the process unfortunately.

Trying to connect what makes you musically tick with DIY mastering and meeting the standards of the loudness war just about means you either need to be a really proficient dj on the side who rakes in enough motivational reward from that where throwing away most of your tunes will be survivable or you have to have a close friend whose got a knack for mastering.

Hi Davidmcg,

I compose music on my computer. It's mostly chiptunes that will play off real video game sound chips from the 80's. My favorite chipset is for Sega Genesis.

Although, I try to mimic orchestra style music with it sometimes, I do not have the money to buy professional quality audio software. The freeware VSTi's just don't cut it, for realism.

But I like the chiptune sound anyway, so I'm not stressin'. 8)

Here's my SoundCloud tracks of you like:

I'm mostly a progressive metal/rock musician myself, but I do compose the occasional electronic tune, my weapon of choice being Reason Essentials.

Reason is a superb tool. I would go back to it if I wasn't so locked into Logic Pro :)

Does it allow you to add 3rd party instruments now?

Aside from the Rack Extensions available in the Propellerhead store, not to my understanding.

Yo davidmcg,

Have you used Jeskola Buzzmachines or Renoise?

If so, what do you think of those DAW's?
