I only know English . I picked up a few phrases from others here and there ~ Um , I'm rather batting this one out so I'm saying a lot less than I intended here , I'm trying to get this one up now before my 'Net time for to-day runs out :( .
I took a few months of seventh-grade French 8O . I went through a spell of telling myself I'd learn Welsh , I bought some audio sets of it...But I'd lose/have them stolen , and/or go through a " Why do I want to do do this ? " crisis of confidence .
Now , I am too poor/not feeling stable enough and do not have an audio player of any kind - I feel like I might become homeless again , for one plus it would tempt me to get more CDs than just that , if I were to even get a super-cheap CD.........for another (all " you cool modern kids " here :( can inform me on this)...isn't " oh , a CD player , dude " WAAAY old hat now ? I guess . :|
I mean , I have only one pair of shoes , and I haven't the ATM card I'd likely need (stolen/not replaced , remember) to order a Welsh course from Amazon (I've checked a bookstore here .) .

I've taken two-years of German, even though I'm a little rusty of it. :P

I took French/Spanish in junior high/high school.

I remember a few words and phrases for both, and some Spanish street slang.

Otherwise, I am monolingual.

What's amazing, to me, is the European/Asian/South American members' proficiency with English--like it's more than just a "second language."

I'm fluent in 4 languages - English is my third - and have a basic knowledge of three others. I do have to switch between two languages on a daily basis and if I'm tired I sometimes start mixing them up

^^ You, potentially, could sound like a passage in "Finnegan's Wake."

Kudos for your linguistic ability!

Haha, thanks man, my wife says "you're speaking Babylonian again". I rather enjoy Joyce. And it's great when you can read books in the language they were written, you get more out of it. I wish I knew Russian for this reason, but I'm too old and lazy to learn it now

Unless you're a multilinguist, "Finnegan's Wake" would be incomprehensible.

I speak Polish and English fluently (English is my second language).
I also learned German for 5 or 6 years but I barely remember anything. "Ich verstahe nicht!", "Eins, zwei, drei", "Jeden", "Entschuldigung", "... bist du...", "Ich wohne in Poland", "suche" are the only stuff I can recall at the moment.
And currently I am self learning Japanesse by watching anime. I remember about 50 words/short sentences right now but I still can't read Japanesse.
I can also understand Slovak/Czech due to it's similarity to Polish.

Yes, I have taught myself Russian to an intermediate level - writing, speaking, listening and understanding. I've been doing it for about 5 years now and, not to boast, but the small amount of native speakers with whom I've actually spoken (not online, but face-to-face) have all said that I speak it really well. That doesn't surprise me, I guess, since it's pretty much been a passionate hobby of mine, and something that I've put a lot of time and effort into and am always so happy when I get to witness the fruits of my labour. Also, I've done various online Russian proficiency tests and I usually score 100%, but they are online, so they're not the best in my opinion.

English and Dutch, Dutch being my native language.

I also have a very basic knowledge of French. My family on my dad's side tried to raise me French when I was kid, I didn't really understand them most of the time.

Edit:

This is true to me, for some reason most of the time when I'm speaking in my head it's in English.

Let's see I know Dutch (mother language) and English pretty well (the later is kind of obvious since I am not writing in it). I have a passive control of German, alto communicating back is a bit problematic for me. I also have a very limited vocabulary of several other languages.
