Hello from Strasburg, Virginia USA. I'm 33, self employed. Married with two kids.

My wife went out of town in February for a few weeks and I had the kids. For some reason the stress of it broke a thread that seemed to have been holding me together this long and it sent me into a dark, bewildering place.

So I've been doing research ever since and finally decided to join the forum and say hello. All of my learned coping mechanisms were seemingly gone overnight been trying to play catch up so I can keep things afloat. Loss of my eye contact and severe anxiety when making phone calls have been tough. Hiding or leaving without saying goodbye have been tough to explain too.

I am self diagnosed but saving up for an appointment next month for an official.

It has been especially difficult for my wife so I am hoping a dialogue here will help take some pressure off of her for sole support.

This was an online quiz I took that gave me a chart

Thanks!

Looking forward to being part of the community.

Welcome! And good for you, looking into the diagnosis. I don't know what your experience will be, but discovering Asperger's has profoundly affected my ability to handle life. So many things that have been hard are finally making sense. It's helping me see things I can change, and better understand ways to adapt, and in some cases see how I'm just as I am. Some things don't need to change. It's all just a matter of finding the way that works best for you. For me, even self-diagosis has helped.

Good luck to you.

Thanks for the welcome!

Discovering Asperger's has definitely helped me make some minute, but important changes so far. I would be perfectly content with self diagnosis. Unfortunately i've got some situations that warrant something more than me saying so.

Learning when to work with, and when to work against myself has been pretty fulfilling info so far.

Welcome to Wrong Planet - I was diagnosed in my mid-forties and it was a great relief to me to find out that there's a whole herd of folks out there just like me that I can talk to.

Make yourself at home here - you're in good company.
