I am wondering how many of us play these and which ones. I used to play LOTGD and now play WoW(occasionally GW too). I took WoW out though recently as it was running slow/odd so need to put it back in later.

Not an MMO person myself, I don't like the idea of needing to rely on others (and their schedules) to succeed at an RPG. Big console RPG fan though. FFVII, Xenogears being my favorites.

ive played a few like everquest, illutia, dofus, and stick online. if you dont like depending on anyone try stick online its a simple stick figure platforming mmo with stat building. however stick online is still in early stages and doesnt have alot in the game right now so dont expect it to be like maplestory. illutia is a semi anime mmorpg that is pretty good although it can get boring once you hit level 50.

As in tabletop, 'D&D'?

When I knew of nothing better (say in '77).

I don't play MMORPGs, though I'd love to, and I'm beginning to have a budding interest in WoW. And maybe Maplestory, depending on the rating.

I have played AD&D but I had problems with group size. I think the max was about 8 people playing and I went quiet and had problems interacting. The smaller the group that played the easier it was for me to interact. I also tried SCA and while I like the clothing, food, and marketplace I couldn't take the volume of people and somethings sometimes scared me so I haven't been in a long time to a meeting.

The only MMOs I haven't played are the ones that haven't been released. I'm a junkie for them, it's pretty sad. Oddly enough, I can't ever reach the endgame. Alt fever, I suppose. Right now I'm not playing any because my wife is a school teacher and, therefore, is about to stop getting paid her normal salary. If I could only spring for one, it would be Planetside. It is incredibly cool and getting better as of late; the devs suddenly decided to start releasing good new content. OK, the Wasp and Vulture aircraft are highly badass but I'm an infantry type. ;) I'm going to have to do the Planetside Reserves thing to get through the summer, even though the level limit will really suck. If I could afford carte blanche then I'd have to also go with A Tale in the Desert, despite the frustrating insistance on making socialization mandatory, and World of Warcraft because although it's just another fantasy level treadmill, it is the best bar none. So for now it is just the freebies: Anarchy Online and Wurm Online (screw Shadowbane, worst freaking controls I've ever dealt with).

As for tabletops, used to be mad into them although I rarely played. Had a whole bunch of books for a wide variety of games. Wish I still had Battlelords of the 23rd Century as those were always a fun read. I could go for Fire, Fusion, and Steel as well, if not all of the Traveller books. Ooh, and Rifts... sorry, you got me all on a tangent. :) I still have a bunch of my Shadowrun books and a couple of Battletech and Vampire books. I love the rulesets, storylines, and ideas that they explore but I'm just not into the sitting with a group of guys playing make-believe. Nothing against the institution, mind you, by no means. I'm just too much closed off to other people to find doing so anything but uncomfortable. I've tried a few times but never really enjoyed it. But I might just get into it online at some point.

Yes, I do know how old you are. Unfortunately, I'm a bit too dumb and old to learn how to play D&D  . I've been spoiled too much by Final Fantasy  . I did use to have a book called Time Lord that was effectively a rule-book for a Doctor Who tabletop RPG, though I did not know how to play it....

i used to be really into the old FFs like FF7,8, and 9. However, ever since playing online games, i can't go back to offline games. It's boring plaing against a computer.

Guild Wars is the greatest mmorpg ever! :D I could never get into other mmorpg's before because of the fact that you would have to pay extra money to play even after you paid $50 for the game in the first place. :x

I like smaller groups for RPGs. Anywhere from 3-6. More than that means
that players don't receive enough attention. Though I've run 12 in Rolemaster.

I remember Time Lord. Never played it though.

The problem with D&D is that it's so prevalent that
people assume that you know EVERYTHING you need
to, in order to play (ok - not the only problem, but from
your position). I actually rather enjoyed running games
for people who were less 'up' on systems. You get no rules
lawyers, and they're often willing to throw more effort into
making characters and interacting than to trying to game
the system. There are good, experienced players though,
but they tend to be pretty rare. The majority of players have
to be willing to take risks and actually BE their character
for it to work out well.
