I'm an old time RPGer. As in, not on computer.
As in tabletop, 'D&D'?
When I knew of nothing better (say in '77).
Yes, I do know how old you are. Unfortunately, I'm a bit too dumb and old to learn how to play D&D
. I've been spoiled too much by
Final Fantasy . I did use to have a book called
Time Lord that was effectively a rule-book for a
Doctor Who tabletop RPG, though I did not know how to play it....
I remember Time Lord. Never played it though.
The problem with D&D is that it's so prevalent that
people assume that you know EVERYTHING you need
to, in order to play (ok - not the only problem, but from
your position). I actually rather enjoyed running games
for people who were less 'up' on systems. You get no rules
lawyers, and they're often willing to throw more effort into
making characters and interacting than to trying to game
the system. There are good, experienced players though,
but they tend to be pretty rare. The majority of players have
to be willing to take risks and actually BE their character
for it to work out well.
