Anyone else feel uncomfortable asking for references?

I was wondering if other people also find it uncomfortable asking people to be referees. Its probably mainly because I've always found it hard connecting with people socially at work anyway. It feels like an imposition asking for a reference from someone you feel you barely know. How do other people go about this?

I'm completely with you on that. I have some acquaintances but no one really to ask for a reference. I needed to get one recently for a course I applied for and I couldn't think of anyone.

Haha....me too. Fortunately I'm a nice person, so people will do it out of pity.
