When I clean, I take index cards with numbers on the front, and put the task on the back and tape them to the wall in each room that needs to be cleaned (that way I don't stray from any one task since it's semi written in stone and I can't bring myself to throw away the card until the task is complete). My son saw me doing this and I've tried many ways to get him to clean his room. He used to clean his room by picking things up by color-I would shout out a random color and he would start cleaning up all of the toys that were that specific color. Then he grew out of it, leaving us lost for a while.

The other day he was very interested in what I was doing with my cards (as the place was a complete disaster I finally hit a point where I had to clean, lol!! !) and he made his own cards and hung them up on his bedroom door, removing them as he went along just like I do :) He got his entire room clean (with a little extra help from mommy) in 3 hours!! ! Which is amazingly fast as he gets interested in every toy he picks up usually and plays with it for at least 10 minutes before moving on to pick up another, lol.

I should try that because I absolutely get distracted when cleaning / tidying.

It would take a miracle for my 2 eldest sons to clean their rooms.

Maybe I should try this system.

You could write a book, appear on 'Oprah' promoting your book. Then with the proceeds get a cleaner!

Yay! There's no point in me cleaning my room. I trip over all my junk in the middle of the night, but it has been so long since I last cleaned my room, that tripping is like a habit to me.

That would be a good idea. There are probably tons of desperate parents out there who would buy the book.

lol!! !! !! ! We could put one together of stories using this system, then we could all get personal housecleaning people!! !

It couldn't just be the housecleaning thing though, as all of you I have seen have wonderful ideas for different times :D So it'd have to be a book that covers all areas where we have unique ideas to make certain things easier (i.e. cleaning, pottytraining, bath time, bed time, etc.)

yeah, his room has been like that for a good while.

It's still a pretty new system to me too-I've only been using it for 2 months now, but every weekend I put up the index cards on the walls, doors, etc, and do everything in number order :)

It really does take me 1-2 MONTHS sometimes before the house gets messy enough for me to go through and really really clean it well-all I do is basics (dishes, vaccumm, put toys away). Sometimes using the system will still take me a week to accomplish it all, lol.

But it really does seem to work well-I make it kind of like... hmmm... textbook standards I guess. I can't move on to the next task until I complete part of it (kind of like moving on to the next lesson in a book, lol). It's actually kind of sad that I have to do that now that I think about it, lol, but it really does work well.

great... now my brain is going, lol. We could just make like, a monthly magazine full of these types of things as people are always wondering about something new, or having a new issue with either themselves or need ideas for the kids... That could actually be a lot of fun to make something like that :)

Someone new will always be talking about something they do that works, or wondering about something else, or after we made a book there would still be more questions, lol-maybe we could start up a site or something...

GAH! I feel an obsession coming on, lol-stop me now.

You could call your magazine:

AS Family Circle

My mind is not very creative now.

Can someone else come up with an original name for this magazine.

WOW!! !! !! My mum would never do that unless if there was so much junk in my room the floor was going to collapse.

She used to make me do it myself but I'm not very good at it so she just did it for me lol

okay, so if we did a magazine type of thing... maybe it should just be a website-easier to manage/figure out, lol. While the forums are great, I come across a lot of topics that are similar, or wind up turning into similar discussion, so it would just be a more "sorted" compilation of advice in areas maybe?

I'd have to PM people of course and make sure they don't mind me using their advice, etc. to form it, but it would be kind of cool to have a place with just advice overall, and I really enjoy sifting through things and organizing them, so it would be somewhat the same thing-to sort through and find similar topics then sort advice from talking within them, etc....

Just put them into a site with main menus, etc.-am I makin sense or just planning it out right here? lol, I can't tell if everything I'm thinking is actually coming out... I probably should actually form a new thread about it, lol, but this one switched semi quickly, so I guess it works.

Does anyone have an idea of something they would want to see on something like that?

(and am I allowed to post about making a separate more organized site for info???)

This is a great post! I'm going to try the index cards thing. I haven't seen my bedroom floor in over a year.

lol! I hope it works :) I found I was getting overwhelmed very easy when looking at every single thing that had to be done all at once-never knew where to start or found other things to do instead, so by having it in order of importance or go from the biggest part of the mess as #1 down to smallest, it really does help keep focus, and if you do the biggest part of the mess first, it feels good to get that gone because you start seeing instant results rather than starting with the smallest part of the mess.

We just wait for people to come over and do the mad dash cleaning for a week in advance. We, don't know many people around here to just have people stop over.

My parents from MN are coming in 3 more days. I have sooooooooooo much to do yet, and am getting burnt out. I guess cleaning the carpets too doesn't help. (Their not that dirty, just decided they should all be clean before they get here).
