When you cannot flirt

I cannot flirt. I cannot recognize when someone is flirting with me. Many times I have had friends tell me that a woman was flirting with me when I thought she was acting like an idiot, or making fun of me, or maybe I didn't notice anything at all. Flirting makes absolutely no sense, but it seems to be the first and biggest barrier to even discussing dating or relationships, hence without flirting, one can not hope to get a date or have a relationship. Who made these stupid rules up?

I have asked a number of my friends to describe flirting behaviors to me. Honestly, I can't distinguish between flirting and sexual harassment, so I'm not even about to try.

Also, a recent study I was reading about a few months ago found that only a small minority of men and women were able to recognize when someone was flirting with them. I don't remember the exact numbers, but I'm pretty sure it was less than a quarter of men and even less for women. So if this method doesn't even work for people who can recognize facial expressions and body language, why is it the method society has settled on?

I'm in the same boat. I don't recognize flirting at all and body language is as foreign as Mandarin Chinese.
