I liked him far more before I read Sir Arthur's biography, but he's still one of my favorites.

Absolutely like Sherlock Holmes. So there's something unpleasant about the author?

I've always liked the Sherlock Holmes stories, and despite having the last name of Doyle, I'm not related to the author, and I've actually been asked that.

I like the one about the snake, sorry can't remember name of story.

I still have the book I bought that is a replica of all the Sherlock stories as they looked when published in the newspaper. In old-looking paper with columns and the original ads on the side.

Yeah...For one thing, I'm hardly sensitive to other people's political sentiments, but Doyle was a nationalist of the worst kind. He insisted that Britain's use of concentration camps against the Boers was perfectly acceptable and that the wretched conditions within it were "exaggerated." He outright denied the reports that British soldiers had committed acts of atrocities towards women and children in Africa because they were "good British boys." If anyone questioned the integrity of Britain, he would go nuts on them. He also let his step-wife abuse his children and basically ignored their existence after his first wife's death. That last part really infuriated me. The letters his children sent back and forth to each other regarding their exile from their father's house is really heart-breaking.

The Speckled Band. I just watched that the other day. I've read several of the stories as well.

Have all the books, been a fan since I was a kid.Loved the old Basil Rathbone movies and the tv show with Jeremy Brett. The new one with Benedict Cumberbatch is also awesome.I didn't care for the Martin Downey Jr movies,he just didn't make a good Sherlock on my opnion.

This character is the reason i am interested in forensic science. When i was a kid he was the one (fictional) person i could relate to the most. Whenever i felt misunderstood and alone i read the stories to remind myself that i don't need to be wealthy or have super-speed to be a hero. My favorite story still is 'A Study In Scarlett', because it was my introduction to the character.

'A Study in Scarlet,' I love the moment when Mr. Holmes met dr. Watson.
But 'The Hound of Baskerville' and 'The Sign of Four' have the most unpredictable end.

I heard on the radio in the middle of the night that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is the latest candidate for Jack the Ripper.
He was a medical doctor e.g. anatomy and other clues.
