Okay, Trek fans, which is your favorite Star Trek film of all time?

You forgot "Star Trek: Nemesis" (film #10). Not that I can see anyone selecting that one as their favourite... :D

seems i forgot to add Nemesis as an option, though I can't see many people choosing that one as a favorite..

personally I enjoy Khan and First Contact the most, though part IV is also really great..

It's a close call, but I voted for ST:VI (The Undiscovered Country)...

Nemesis had the potential to be a great film, but falls short for too many reasons. i think the editing was done poorly. Personally, I think the 10th film should've used a different cast, perhaps the crew of DS9 or the Voyager...i think fans were getting tired of seeing the Next Gen cast on the big screen.

Obviously the even-numbered ones (minus Nemesis). III and Insurrection were pretty good, too. The Motion Picture felt like a long, drawn-out light show. V felt rushed, and they tacked on some cheap humor to try and build on the success of IV. Generations was kind of like a long TNG episode. Nemesis was full of cliché and cheese (but the new Warbirds and Romulan uniforms were pretty neat).

I don't consider it my favorite, but I did like #6 a lot, and it's a hell of a lot better than #1, #3, and #5, which is just god awful..

Nemesis suffers for the same reason V does...they are both rushed. Insurrection seems to be the most overlooked trek film, but i think it's on a par with VI and IV.

Star Trek V was rushed, cause it was a victim of the 1988-89 Writer's Strike. Also, Star Trek V had to use a different special-effects house than Industrial Light and Magic which they normally use for Star Trek films.

I myself call Star Trek I, The Motionless Picture. It was in the words of Homer Simpson, BO-RING.

My personal favorites, are II, IV, VI, Generations, First Contact. I liked Insurrection ok, and I liked Nemesis ok, but they are not favorites of mine for Star Trek flims. I'm rather picky when it comes to Star Trek. I guess that's why I come down hard on Enterprise like I do, cause I felt that series was a slap in the face to Star Trek fans.

My favorite film is Star Trek II. I think it is because of the villain, the ending, and perhaps because of the more human way the characters are dealt with then in most of the films.

my opinion, your mileage my vary (out of ****)
Motion Picture (Director's Edition)) *** (I never saw the original version; the extended edition *1/2)
II ***1/2
III ***
IV ***
V **
VI ***
Generations ***
First Contact ***1/2
Insurrection *1/2
Nemesis **1/2

Oh yeah, the special effects in Star Trek V were awful. The one thing in that movie that kept in from sinking to the depths was the characterizations provided by the "big three" (Shatner, Nimoy, Kelley). It makes the film much more watchable, although there are moments when it is just awful (especially when the film switches from god-awful humor trying to make serious points in a laughable manner).

I do like the Director's Edition though. They eliminated allot of the unneeded stuff. I really wish they handed added the "bonus footage" to Star Trek II's special addition though. In every case (perhaps except one) the new scene wasn't in the original film for obvious reasons.

William Shatner's directing didn't help any. :D

Anyone notice that the bridge of the Enterprise-A in 4 through to 5 through to 6 is different in every one of those movies?

Yeah, they modified and made it look darker, and more serious. The original was far too bright.

They modified the Enterprise refit bridge between the first movie and the second (most notably they moved Spock's console). They also made slight changes in the location of the turbolifts between II and III despite the fact the ship was flying in after a major battle. A rather strange, and presumably expensive refit to do (of course, money doesn't exist in the 23rd century  ) for such an occasion. Of course, the real reasons are probably more mundane.

The Enterprise bridge set was modified and used for the Reliant's (Khan's ship) bridge, as well as the Grisson in Star Trek III. It was modified again for various ships in The Next Generation. The Enterprise bridge was modified for STV and again for STVI. It was used as a basis for the Excelsior bridge set in that movie.

Not long after the release of Star Trek II, the Canadian comedy troupe "The Frantics" has a Star Trek sketch on their show, in which the crew of the Enterprise are preparing for the filming of Star Trek III. There's a line that always cracks me up (I have the sketch on tape). When Dr. McCoy first arrives on the bridge, he says:

"Dammit, Jim, why do they redesign this ship every movie? I keep getting lost!"

It was a close call between IV and VI for me, but I voted for Star Trek IV
