Do you like to learn Spanish?

I'm learning Spanish and working hard at it. It's not easy to get past 56% fluency in DuoLingo, but I'm trying really hard. I'm especially working hard to learn education-related words since those are some of the toughest ones.

I'd like to learn Spanish. It's so darn useful! Not only because so many people speak it, but it's a great gateway-language too. After that, learning Portuguese, Italian and French is a piece of cake (or so I've heard).

I am just terrible at studying it. I do it from time to time, but I get frustrated and quit because I can't get it in. I'm probably not studying right, because whenever I'm around Spanish speaking people, I pick up on it really fast.

I didn't realize until just now that I should really just be listening to Spanish radio or something. How did I not think of this before!?
Jeeeeez, I'm slow sometimes!


Anyways, I'd also like to know about DuoLingo. How does it work, and is it any good?

I'm making it a point not to learn Spanish. I'd rather learn Russian or German.

It is one of the languages I'd like to study... maybe some day.

DuoLingo is an app that teaches languages. It’s not enough to use DuoLingo—it’s not a very high quality app, so you have to read educational books and quiz yourself without the app, too, if you want to learn the language for real. But it’s a good start.

Why?

Even though my mom is native to Central America, my Spanish sucks.

However, try the Pimsleur Method if you believe memorizing a new language will be a waste of your time.

I am using the language app Babel and also two method audiobooks, one by Mark Frobose and another by Paul Noble. I also spent two weeks in Costa Rica at a language school. My Spanish is functional, but I can't seem to break past that. i am learning Spanish because I have clients who are Spanish-speaking only. I can read the Spanish posts here, but am unlikely to be able to "say" something and maybe that has more to do with lack of imagination. What I like about Noble's technique is that is focuses on patterns you can use to construct sentences. Frobose, on the other hand, had a nifty explanation about how to make the rolled "r's" that I have never heard before and my "r's" are much improved. I'd also like to know how I can easily change my keyboard so it can use the Spanish accents.
