I can't write fictional prose to save my soul, but I write poetry.

Lots of it.

Kind of obsessively, really.

And then I usually shred it.

Is this autistic, or my personal brand of weird?

It's your own weird, it's too common with both entees and endees to be related to falling on the spectrum. The way you write might be more related to being on the spectrum; same with the cycle of obsessively creating and destroying your work. If you're having really productive periods you should ask someone to 'steal' some of it from you to preserve it, it might have value beyond just expressing in the moment.

I write rambly barely rhyming poetry a lot, usually just reflections of social/political/personal issues that are often too abstract to really make much sense. More recently I've started writing down ciphers I come up with in response to songs I listen to and then picking apart the rhyming strategy.

Well, I write song lyrics, and those are poems in a sense, so...

I've tried. There was a point where I tried really hard, but just had no talent for writing poems, so I gave up and by now have lost interest in them.

My NT sister however does write poems. She ever lets me read them, though.

I used to write some poetry back in creative writing workshops I used to take in my college days. First and foremost, though, I'm a fiction writer. I'm much better at prose than poetry.

I had a couple of very prolific song writing periods years ago when I used to play in bands. I found it much easier and enjoyable than writing prose, though I doubt the results were anything special. With prose, I very often get bogged down in endless re-writing of individual sentences and lose the general theme, whereas the structure imposed by the music and "poetic licence" pushed me to be more concise and less perfectionist about grammar etc.

No I write too.
Fiction writing is fun but I can only do it when my environment is more stable.

You should publish some of your poetry on a blog.
Here's my blog if you ever want a read: https://goldyntears.wordpress.com
