Why don’t people respect an artist’s privacy?

I often do art that’s only meant for me to see or hear. In the past I would make some doodles that are only meant for me to look at. If someone else almost saw it I would end up destroying it. My mom would get mad at me for destroying my artwork, but 99% of the artwork I destroyed was meant to be temporary or private. Same thing with some fictional stories I write. They’re only meant for me and maybe a few niche online communities to read. This also happens with music. I used to sing to myself just for fun. But my sister would barge in and say I have a nice singing voice :wall:. I knew it was her way of reminding me I have no privacy. How is an artist supposed to truly experiment without some privacy? When I’m making art I DO NOT want to be thinking of what other people might think. At least not in the initial stage. I just want to have fun, learn and experiment. Not worry about other people or my privacy.

Because the feeling is if you destroy something you hated it. They want to to showcase your work, not hide it from the world.

I do most of my fiction writing at night when everyone else is asleep. Do your hours allow you to work on your art at night?

Well your sister is probably just trying to encourage you, I mean I doubt she has malicious intentions from saying you have a nice voice. Also why is it you don't want to share your art if you feel you are an artist? I have created some things I don't want other people to see...but I never actually took myself for an artist. My sister can draw pretty great and she even has a couple tattoos of her artwork...its interesting though because she just sort of taught herself, like she does really good shading and such so it looks pretty realistic even if its a drawing of something not very realistic...like she likes to draw some pretty creepy ghoulish anorexic looking creatures but they look so real. But yeah that is what one of her tattoos is. Anyways though like she never took a class or anything and even the noses she draws look good...I literally had to take a class to learn how to draw a freaking nose aside from just putting an abstract line....but I learned it with charcoal sketching....my sister will make the most amazing drawings with just a pencil that is not even sharpened correctly.

But of course growing up she always got rather annoyed about people telling her she should be an artist and bla bla bla bla. Thing is she can be an artist and still do other things, so I think part of it was she didn't want to be limited to being an artist per say.
