Any extroverted aspies out there? What do you think makes you different from most ASD people? I would love to hear how life is different or harder for you because of this. Just looking for some solidarity. I, for the longest time, didn’t even think I was on the spectrum because of my extrovertness.

I'm not, but I have meant autistic people who are extroverted. Most of them also seem to be more sensory seeking than avoidant, and still have difficulty in social interactions but initiate them anyway, rather than blocking in themselves like introverted autistic people.

Many extroverted autistic people, but not all, can be overly trusting.

Of course this is only from my observation as an introverted autistic person.

I am both introverted and extroverted.

I used to go up to strangers and just start talking to them.

I also didn't mind spending time alone for hours on end.

Depends on my mood. I could land at either introversion and extroversion.

But overall, I'm an ambivert leaning towards introversion...

I would consider myself an ambivert, someone who likes both solitary and socially active pursuits.

I'm slightly more introverted but have a very extroverted side as well. I get exhausted by pretty much everything, though but I used to assume it was socialization. It is over-analysis.

I would imagine there are far more extroverts with Asperger's but they are forced into solitude because social relationships are more dangerous for people with ASDs. A skilled manipulator can drag a relationship on for months and turn on the person without warning while sabotaging them throughout.

I personally am extreme on the introvert/withdrawn scale, but there are many personalities on the spectrum. I have some real life friends and at least one internet friend who are extroverts and on the spectrum.

I'm somewhere in the middle of introverted and extroverted. I'm extroverted when I'm with people I know well and can trust, be it in public or private, but reserved and introverted when in public alone or around people I don't know well.

Like others here, I can be both in different contexts.

If I'm not experiencing distress and am maximizing my "social face," I can come across as magnetic at my best. I've had many instances where I inform someone that I am an introvert and they won't be believe me.

They will eventually however, because I can never maintain the façade. I will inevitably retreat to solitude and aloofness. People who know me for more than brief encounters will immediately call me out as introverted.

Apparently as a very small child I was highly extroverted. My mother told me I became shy and withdrawn when I started mingling with peers in school. I was an only child, so it's probably that I was feasting on adult fascination with me without being tested with peer related social development. I would just talk endlessly about whatever was interesting me and they ate it up. It gets less cute with age unfortunately...

Based on my experiences at the support groups I attend, I think I'm on the extraverted side compared to most of the autistic people I've met, but introverted compared to most NTs.

However, even among the autistic people I've met, there's a relatively small category of people who seem more extraverted than I am, and who don't seem to share my difficulties with unfocused group conversation. Like many autistic people, I have great difficulty participating in unfocused group chit chat; I need something to focus on, either a person (in one-on-one conversation) or a topic (in group conversation). But there are some autistic people (at least half of whom have said that they have co-occurring ADHD, I've noticed) who don't have the common autistic difficulty with unfocused group chit chat, and who aren't particularly sensitive to the needs of those of us who do have this difficulty.

To be honest I think I am both introverted and extroverted as well depending on the situation. I think I’m really extroverted with people I know very well and with people who have the same interests as me. The poster @ Arganger pretty much described me very well. I’m very sensory seeking, always have been since I was little. I am also very trusting which is one of the things that worries my parents the most. I honestly can’t really tell when I’m being manipulated or taken advantage of. That kind of sucks.

I think I am, if the context is right anyway. I used to be more afraid of people, sometimes still am and I do spend alot of time alone (in a library in fact). But as I've aged, I've come to care less and less about what other people think of me if it's negative anyway (you only live once and the clock's always ticking) and there are so many people out there worth meeting. I'm increasingly saying f**k fear! It's time to live. And I don't have sensory issues really. I have alot of anxiety, but I'm just not as worried about it any more.
