Last night, I tried to access this site and I got the message "Site disabled. Contact your internet service provider for more information."

Did we get a DDOS attack again?

I sent an email to Alex. I asked him if he was "upgrading." He said "Yes."

That must be the move to another server that he mentioned last week.

I think this upgrade should have been better 'signposted'. A lot of members may not have been aware of the very low key, inconspicuous post by Alex on July 7, and some might even have been worried that the site had gone out of business when it disappeared without warning last night.

An email to every member, stating when and for how long the site was to go offline, would have been appreciated.

Anyway, acknowledgement is due for the fact that an upgrade has at last taken place, and let's hope all runs a good deal more smoothly from now on.

Why? The service that Alex provides is free to all members, and we're fortunate that the owner of this website takes any interest in it at all.

According to the "inconspicuous post" you mentioned, it was just a move to another server, not an upgrade.

I did see the message and theorized that the move to another server was taking place but based on past history was still worried something bad was happening.

We are not owed anything from Alex. However it is proper form to notify users of a website in advance if you know your site will be offline. Autistic users of this site react particularly poorly to unexpected change. I would advise Alex next time he has advanced knowledge the site might or will down add a thread in each section notifying users of the issue. A sentence or two copied and pasted a few times is all that is needed.

I've just noticed that WP doesn't seem to load up in HTTPS mode, either on Chrome or Firefox, since the server change.

Yep. I saw the same "Site Disabled" message and figured I'd try again today. Got the Cloudflare browser check, but then kept getting 404 errors when I tried to reach the forum index, or 403 Forbidden errors for the main site, all... day... long... til it occurred to me to try http mode.

Gotta say I'm relieved everyone is still here. And hey, maybe I can see youtubes displayed again 8O

The Site seems to be going pretty well now.

But I hope the administration didn't revert to "band-aid" solutions.

I wouldn't want the Site to go down, say, when somebody is talking about doing harm to themselves.

The site is noticibly zippier now and so far no error messages.

Let’s see how long this lasts....

I give it a (very preliminary) half thumbs-up.

People pay him to advertise here based on site activity.

Actually typically you can't. Due to CloudFlare the site always displays as UP even when it's just the CloudFlare errors.
