What can I do about a person sending me abusive PMs? Full of profanity. Making the person a "foe" obviously doesn't prevent them from arriving. I also feel that such a person shouldn't be running around WrongPlanet. If they do it to me they may be doing it to others too.

You should report them (you can also report a PM), and they will get either a warning or will be banned.

I thought you could too, but I don't see a "Report" button like you have on forum posts. Where is it?

Do you see that red exclamation mark underneath the PM? Bottom right.

You can also set up a rule that automatically deletes PMs as they come in. Look to the left, on your PM menu. There's a line that includes the word 'rules'. Click on that and follow through.

I've done this numerous times to block PMs from members who posted fake suicide notices, and who them bagged on me through PMs for not falling for their scams.

It seems to me they're possibly violating all 3 points under Conduct in the site rules. I am not a moderator but I feel this strongly merits reporting them. Abuse including profanities has never been deemed acceptable on any forum I've frequented. There is no such message that legitimately requires the use of profanities in order to be communicated and if there is, it is better off never being said.

If there indeed is not any Report button in the PM interface(I've not received any PM's as of yet so IDK), I would just PM a moderator and attach screencaps of the offending PMs.

Very interesting. Could this be set up to allow from friends or site staff only? Like Sender = {(Is on my Friends List = True) || (Sender has a ranking of Moderator or above = True)} Otherwise auto-delete PM. A simpler case if it's just a couple of bad eggs would be to auto delete any from people on Foe's List. Though the first would be best for if they make sock puppets.

Could it perhaps auto-report the PM if it's the Nth one as would be likely with case of harassment? Or auto-report if profanities are present?

Frankly though I do find it a little surprising there isn't an option to turn off PM functionality. Other sites have that option, which will prevent anyone other than site staff from PM'ing the person.

Suicide notes are considered death threats, and sites typically state that illegal activities will lead to police involvement.

Thank you PrestonGarvey. Actually I did use the red exclamation point to report the PMs. However, I have not heard anything back from moderators, which surprises me somewhat.

I don't know as anything is really needed in terms of modifying the platform. If I would suggest anything, it would be to change the red exclamation point to a button that says "Report" - similar to what is seen in forum posts;

It might be that because this is a smaller website it takes longer. The big sites have army of moderators but I think here there are only a few. Though I would get concerned if it's been several days.

I agree about the button, I would have made the same conclusion since I'd have been looking for the same button we find in threads. And probably have made topic as well(what else would I do if there didn't seem to be any report button in PM interface?).
