My daughter and I found an adult autism support group and we plan to go this month.

Do any of you go to a group like this? I am talking about a group for autistic people, not so much for their family members.

I got involved our city's group. Washington DC's adults with autism and aspergers support group that meets at Asian restaurant downtown. They send announcements via email. They have activities. Took a little day cruise on the Potomac with them once. Have been real busy and not gotten involved for a while. Would like to get active again.

Kinda like Wrong Planet if it were face to face in person. A varied bunch of folks in the same room. Different ages and races, men and women, intellectually impaired to brainaics.

I belong to a group that does activities once a month. I like it.

Autism Society of Minnesota (AuSM) has a monthly social/support group I went to one time this year. I had some sensory issue with one of the rooms and was a bit agitated but I hope to try again. There were 30-40 people and split into four different groups that were different topics and types of structure. They also have a birthday party once a month that I would like to go to.

Yes, I do. It's hit and miss - some sessions are really good, others are awkward.

I like the sessions most where we have an organised activity like playing board games rather than just talking.

I don't, but I'd consider it.

I don't attend any sort of formal group, but most of my friends are autistic and informally act in a bit of a support fashion.

I would like a formal group, though.

No. Because it's unavailable in my city.

The current support group in my city isn't much for me, though I did had fun.

I've yet to know if a formal autism support group is for me, or if I'd like it or not...

I used to before all the health problems cropped up. I enjoyed them.

I'm glad to hear that sort of thing exists. I might be interested in trying it out. Especially if they have snacks.

I feel that this might be a really awesome thing for me but alas, I have no time as I work 6 days a week and I suppose I would be too scared initially to go.

You'd like the one I go to then. I always take a family pack of Tim Tams (Aussie chocolate biscuits, very popular) and others bring sandwiches, other types of biscuits, cakes and things like that. I leave feeling full.

Our group is strictly made up of adult autistics. We communicate through Facebook and meet up once a month in the city. I take the train and it's a 5 minute walk from the station.

Some people don't say a lot and others won't shut up, heh. I'm kind of quiet and generally need someone to say hi to me first to get me talking. Last meeting we had a guest speaker who talked about executive dysfunction. It not a topic that's easy for me to understand so maybe I need to do some reading.
