Here are some I find really deterring, or possibly, in an approximate rank top to bottom

1) Tinder
2) Hinge
3) Bumble
4) Zoosk
5) OkCupid
6) POF

There have been multitudes of others coming out as I breathe (being metaphorical here but you know, perhaps), but I've tried two, the bottom three are also websites, just be careful about being desperate if that's your situation. If you think you're ready, meetups are the best. Just fair warning, a friend and I see it as a marginal breakthrough in the new hookup scene. It's just a waste. I'm in a tough spot myself, but if you are curious and need to be wary, I just wanted to put this out there.

OkCupid and pof aren’t new
Basically you’re saying avoid all free dating sites, are paid sites any better? Doubt it

Only dates I’ve got were from OkCupid and pof.

Meetups doesn't work either.

Most come with already established friend groups and none is interested to include someone new , you just acquire acquaintances, no friends, let alone dates.

Paid meeting places, virtual or not, are good at excluding those who can't afford them.

Or who are not very serious about it.

Most dating sites require a credit card if you want great results, so in turn you should not waste your time on any of them.

They haven't worked for you. I've only tried 2 meetup groups. One was worse than you describe (I felt really left out and didn't make any acquaintances) and well, my closest friends are all from the other one. A quarter of all my FB friends I met there. And I've gotten dates (I've asked and been asked).

None of these methods are "it will work" or "it won't work". They all yeild different results for different people, and for each person they yeild different results at different times or with different attitudes/approaches.

Try anything you feel like trying (for as long as you like or in as many different ways as you like) and see how it works for you. As long as you are not hurting anyone, obviously. That's my recommendation.

Find your groove.

Well, apprently you are much more attractive and approachable than me, so stranger people are much more likey to invite you (yet that works for friendships too).

Now leave me alone lol.
