I have been interested in the link with autism and allergies.

I am allergic to cats, horses, birds, moulds/toadstools and their spores, pollens etc. I get terrible asthma and as a child had bad eczema but have things well medicated now and always take antihistamines before going to peoples houses especially if they have cats. I often have to go to hospital with really bad asthma attacks. I'm sure I will die one day through one as they can be so severe. My doctor did once say that my allergies would improve as I got older and my immune system went down, which they have! I didn't realise there was something good about getting older for me!

Have many of you got allergies/ intolerances?

I have a lot of allergies & had BAD eczema as a kid. I kind of outgrew the eczema in my teens but it started coming back since I moved to an area that's a lot colder & we have a floor furnace for heat. I take a couple allergy meds daily, Singulair/Montelukast & the antihistamine Xyzal/Levocetirizine. I also sometimes use Flonase/Fluticasone nasal spray & sometimes take Sudafed.
I'm not aware of a link between autism & allergies except some people on the spectrum have food allergies & found some of their autism symptoms got better 1ce they switched diets. I don't think I have any food allergies thou. My parents treid diets with me as a kid cuz of my skin eczema & they didn't notice any difference with anything except my behavioral issues were worse because I was(still am somewhat) a very picky eater & did not like the food I was forced to eat.

Thanks for replying. Allergies are a total pain! I don't think any foods affect me either although can get an itchy mouth after eating certain cheeses so think that maybe the mould on some? I know it could just be genetic as both sides of my family have allergies and I feel I just got the double whammy but have read things that say immune systems sometimes lead to a higher rate of allergies/intolerances in AS.

When I was in Egypt I noticed my allergies were much better but homes tended to be tiles and grass not everywhere.

I take it there are no studies on this and its just an anecdotal theory atm?

I'm lactose intolerance, I also have asthma which I'm taking Montelukast for.

Many say autism have problems with gluten, I will do allergytests about 2 weeks and find out if it's more.

I dont personally have any food allergies that I know of (unless being lactose intolerant counts. But Im 'intolerant' to a lot of foods really) but I have a good friend who is and I cant imagine having to deal with that.
He's allergic to eggs, chicken, turkey, cinnamon, treenuts, peanuts, and one other thing I cant remember. Literally anything that has eggs in its ingredient list-which is a whole lot of things!-he cant eat. My mom was going crazy trying to feed him when he stayed with us over winter break!
Personally, Im only mildly allergic to bug bites and terribly allergic to wasps. But Ive only been stung once.

I should add that my 2nd girlfriend is an Aspie who found out she was casein intolerant while we were together. She found some of her autism issues got better after she started avoiding milk

Good luck with tests. I tried Montelukast a few years ago. In Australia it was quite expensive and I didn't notice a huge difference and heard recently on radio that there was an increased chance of heart attack. I just tried looking up a link and seems it's if u r over 60, female and diabetes so I'm sure there's nothing to panic about! :)

Your poor friend! I met a lady who is like that and she said years ago as a kid she went to a party and asked the mum if there was eggs in the cake. The lady just thought she was being a pain and said 'no' and it nearly killed her. Personally if I was that girls mum I'd have been a bit more onto it as they are very real.
It must be a total pain but the upside would be great knowledge about food and if you are managing it right I imagine a very healthy diet. Must be a bit dangerous getting there tho! Your mum sounds a champ!

Ahhh, that's interesting. I think it's interesting how they are now saying your gut flora can effect mood. I have an ok diet but am making my own bread and just made a batch of sauerkraut. Now anyone with a chocolate intolerance I really feel for!

I'm allergic to cats and dust. We have three cats and this place is the dustiest (sp) place I've ever lived in.

I take Symbicort twice a day for my asthma and most nights I take Rhinocort (nasal spray) before bed.

I have noticed a huge difference when I sleep if I have an air purifier going. I've had it going for a couple of weeks and feel much better. That maybe something to think about as it has cut down the amount I use Ventolin by at least half . :)

Sometimes when precious lil "people" try to pressure me to eat something I tell them allergic

Celiac disease, casein, gluten

Lil f*****s act like just because they paid for the "food" I have to eat it

One boy had the nerve to tell me to lick his finger (covered in frosting)

This lil f****r was homophobic and asked "are you gay?", When I got buzz cut

As if only gay women get buzzcut

The other thing , was "guys and girls"

No :!:

Boys and girls

Men and women

Lady and gentleman

Male female

College boys don't have to be called "boys"

Senile women get called "girl"

Sexism
