Anyone else experiencing irregular heartbeats / pulse ?

I have had this for a couple of years now and still the doctors haven`t been able to get it "on tape" so there isn`t much to do, but I am having a new 24 hours EKG this month and hope it will show on the EKG this time. It comes and goes in periods so I haven`t succeeded to get appointments at the hospital exactly when I am experiencing it.
There are periodes I feel absolutely fine and then I of course don`t think about it.

Even if it isn`t dangerous it is still uncomfortable and it kind of affects my mood on days when I experience a lot of it.

Anyone else who lives with this and how do you handle it?

I think I've had that happen during periods/times I was heavily crushing on someone. I felt like passing out sometimes too during those times. I don't seem to have an issue when I'm not heavily crushing.

I have experienced a lot of stress the last years that was hard to get through. I somehow feel that my issues with the irregular pulse came in the aftermath of this stress, as well as other helath issues, and now kind of has a life of it`s own regardless of my emotional state.

I don`t notice that I get irregular heartbeats directly from either stress or any other emotion, but rather that it comes when I do something physically like walking in the woods or when I am resting like sitting with my computer, eating or reading. In bad periodes it starts as soon as I get up in the morning or when I go out to feed the horses and start working. In moderate periodes I can feel it mostly in the evenings and take it as a sign that I might get it from being weary after the day.

An arrhythmia is a problem with the rate or rhythm of your heartbeat. It means that your heart beats too quickly, too slowly, or with an irregular pattern. When the heart beats faster than normal, it is called tachycardia. When the heart beats too slowly, it is called bradycardia. The most common type of arrhythmia is atrial fibrillation, which causes an irregular and fast heart beat.

Many factors can affect your heart's rhythm, such as having had a heart attack, smoking, congenital heart defects, and stress. Some substances or medicines may also cause arrhythmias.

Symptoms of arrhythmias include:

* Fast or slow heart beat
* Skipping beats
* Lightheadedness or dizziness
* Chest pain
* Shortness of breath
* Sweating

Your doctor can run tests to find out if you have an arrhythmia. Treatment to restore a normal heart rhythm may include medicines, an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) or pacemaker, or sometimes surgery.

This article discusses the various types of arrhythmia. 6 Ways Your Heart Can Get Out of Rhythm

One of these types is
4. Premature Beats
Most irregular heart rhythms involve extra or skipped beats. These types of arrhythmias are harmless and usually don't cause symptoms. People who do feel symptoms report fluttering in the chest or a feeling that their heart has skipped. Premature beats can occur in anyone, most often happen naturally, and don't require treatment. But they also can happen as a result of heart disease, stress, overexercising, or too much caffeine or nicotine. In those instances, you should talk with a cardiologist about your heart and any needed lifestyle changes.

So I wonder if there is any correlation to the time when you drink coffee, tea or other drinks that might contain caffeine.

During a stress test some years ago it was noted that my heart would randomly, but regularly skip a beat. Cardiologist told me that it was not uncommon and of no concern. When life's load gets intense I experience palpitations. Wore an annoyingly uncomfortable heart monitor for 14 days with a "nothing to worry about" result. Fortunately there is no arrhythmia. How's your BP and HR?

This can actually be caused by alcohol. If you consume alcohol, I suggest stopping for a couple of weeks.

Thank you so much for you reply and the links. I suspected I didn`t tolerate caffein very well and have been staying away from coffee, black tea and cola until recently when I tried to let myself have som coffee and sort of started having a cup or two a day for some days in a row. If this really have contributed to me feeling worse again, it is obvious then that coffee is a big no for me. Otherwise I don`t smoke or use any other nicotine products.

I do have a heart and lung desease though(idiopatic pulmonary hypertention), but I had it many years before I started having the irregular heartbeats and I am also on quite heavy medication to treat this condition that affects bloodpressure. I have constantly too low bloodpressure due to the medical treatmen I am on.
I can well imagine that perhaps stress triggered my body into this because i have been living with a big load of stress for several years and had other physical sympoms of stress too that I have been working on. Exercising being one of the things I have been doing to try and help myself. I notice that in periods with a lot of irregular heartbeats I also feel that I am physically weaker and can do less of my exercises.

I am of course seeing a chardiologist regularly to check up on my PH and I have tried to mention this to him but I have troubles with expressing myself..I just have to keep trying I guess :lol: Anyway I am getting a 24 hour EKG in a week and I hope it will be registered then. I should perhaps drink coffee before I go to the hospital :lol:

Thank you very much jimmy m

I am glad to hear your irregular heartbeats are of no concern! Yes I also think and hope that mine are nothing to worry about too. It is very uncomfortable though as I feel them very well. Like a little fish taking a jump inside my chest and sometimes it goes on for several minutes before it eases off. I can also feel those other symptoms mentioned in jimmy m`s post. So it makes me uncomfortabel and a bit nervous never the less.

I don`t remember my blood pressure but it is regularly at the lower end of due to medications I am on to treat my PH as I mentioned above. My heart rate varies a lot from 49 when I check it at home at rest in bed to 80 something when my doctor checks it but I am always nervous when I am at the hospital... and then I have found it to be anything inbetween at different times of the day at home.

Yes, alcohol would be bad for several things about my health condition so I don`t drink alcohol except for rare special occations where I might have a small glass of wine if anything. But for the last couple of years I haven`t tasted alcohol. I probably should stick to this praxis then :)

Kardia is a portable EKG device on your phone. I was hoping fitbit could do this but a discussion steered me to this product instead.

I've had some irregular heartbeats earlier, and was fortunate enough to be at the doctor when it happened, had the doctor watch and she told me that it wasn't a problem and would probably grow away. This was when i was 30 something and i had it since the 20s. She was right, it went away.

My father who spent lots of time around doctors both working and as a patient, said the same thing "your body is adapting to a slower lifetime".

I experienced it as feeling like the heart skipping a beat or the "air going out of the heart" which is a dumb description, but that is how it felt.

Given your age it may be something else, especially since you experience it lots. If i were you i'd be all over the doctor to get a detailed investigation and a diagnosis.

So if I understand correctly you don`t experience it at all anymore? That would be good to hear and it certainly gives me some hope because I must say I still want to believe this isn`t anything bad and maybe something I can be free of for good. I need my hope :wink:

I have been at the doctor too when the flutter came and I was rushed into the EKG room but what do you know, when I was lying there connected to the EKG it was gone, so the print showed nothing. Just outside the doctors office going home, it was there again. So hopeless :lol:

Thanks for the link traven, it was a very interesting read! I think this might be worth considering!

From the list of symptoms I recognize several and overall I feel both the heartjumps and the other symptoms strong enough to not feel able to live happily with it. Especially the part where I feel I need to slow down because if it! Today is my beloved dance class and I will head off and see how it goes.

Anyway it really feels calming, and reassuring, and comforting to read the posts from you people! Thank you very much to all of you for replying!
