If I'm posting here, I'm a bit surprised, but I am hoping this goes through.

I just wrote a long rant for the rants thread of the haven. I've tried to post it several times, but I haven't been able to. I didn't hit preview (because editing a rant takes away from its authenticity), but hitting submit led me to the page where I promised faithfully that I'm not a robot, but then it took me right back to the page where I typed up the rant, except that the rant was gone. (Thankfully, hitting back a couple of times restored it.)

I'm trying to think what's different about this post from all the others. I never have posted on a sticky before, although I have no clue why that would matter. Also, it was probably my longest reply, so maybe that was it? Anyhow, if sending this out works, can someone help me out?

Okay, this one worked, but the other still won't go up!

This site uses an authentication system called Captcha. It is designed to minimize spam. But unfortunately this subprogram is very buggy. Many times if your threads are short, you may not even see Captcha. But if you do, then your entries may simply disappear whether you answer the questions correctly or not.

I have found that if your thread is long, contains several links or quotes, it is more likely to see the Captcha screen. I hate to reconstruct a long email all over again. So whenever my thread is long, I save what I have written into a scratch file, so that I could retrieve it should that happen.

Thanks! My rant wound up coming in five posts, with a sixth for an explanation and apology for everything. I think it must have thought I was a robot, because I'm terrible at those picture things, and I can't imagine that I get them right more than half the time. Amusing that such a thing is on this site--half the people probably see absolutely everything in every image, and can even note a reflection of a fire hydrant in a mirror, and people like me can see a picture with a hydrant right in the front, and it's possible I'll miss it.

If the captcha screen comes up , there is a high chance that your post won't go through.

When it does come up , press back on your browser , your post will still be there , copy your post for safe keeping.

As Jimmy has said , sometimes a quote in your post is the culprit. Remove the quote and the post usually goes through.

Don't apologize. The images are very low resolution and many are very dark making it very difficult to select the appropriate boxes.
