What do you think about abortion?
What do you think about abortion? I know it's a rather controversial topic.
I am Catholic and despite the fact that I am a guy, I am attracted to other guys (although I do not have sex because it is a sin) and I have Asperger Syndrome.
I consider abortions as something wicked without serious reasons, such as a threat to a woman's life.
I used to have a friend who also had emotional problems, but not autism, only Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), but he found a girl, but he had a problem, accidental pregnancy at the age of 15, his girlfriend said that if he wants, she can terminate pregnancy, and he was offended, he said he felt like she spat in his face, that he didn't want to have a child with her at that age, but how could she even think that he would kill his own child for his own pleasure, that what is done it's done, but he would never persuade her to abortion.
And my friend is staunch atheist, yet as it comes abortion he shares our Catholic value, but he hates church in his opinion our Catholic Church is full of pedo and Orthodox Church and Protestant are not better -)
In Poland, the Roman Catholic Church had great influence, even though now it's little diminished after sexual scandals.
Now that man had 4 kids in total with his very much first girl, now wife, with whom he begot his first child when he was a teenager, in his opinion his own children are the coolest fun that can happen to a man, although he preferred to wait with this first-child a little longer

This friend of mine got married as soon as he was 18, but it was not a church ceremony but a civil marriage.
My friend said that his wife's father, with the rest of his strength, stood up not to strangle him
He said that even this pregnancy did not stop him from having sex with her. he said he didn't need alcohol or cigarettes, and drugs are for losers, but he says "don't take from me sex off me"
That he already has the first conversations about sex behind him, because his oldest child son, is just entering the teenage period, he says that he will not forbid sex to his children, but he will want to sensitize them about contraception and accidental pregnancies,
Hello Pawel--
Discussion of abortion aside, I don't think your friend is in a good state of mind. He sounds like he's addicted to sex: does he realize that it's not a fundamental human right, but is for married peoples' enjoyment & for producing kids if kids happen to get born? (Catholic views.)
Speaking of Catholicism, nobody cares about the influence of the Church. It's either right, or it's wrong. If it's right, then it's the true religion. If it's wrong, to hell with it. It happens to be infested with paedos and scammers. I also saw that it has preserved faith handed down by Christ. So here I am Catholic AF. But don't let cultural Catholicism get in your eyes. Most people who are culturally Catholic don't know why they hold their beliefs. If you want to believe it, learn why.
Anyhow, I'd be for abortion if 1) it wasn't a way people frequently abuse women, and 2) if a fertilized human egg was not a distinct organism with its own fully human DNA that can develop into a regular baby in nine months. It's alive, has human DNA, sounds like a human life to me. So I don't think removing them even at the smallest stage is morally right, though it's darkly convenient.
Intersting side note--I went to a screening of Unplanned, a biographical picture of Abby Johnson, who was Planned Parenthood's Employee of the Year once before she quit and became a pro-life activist and feminist. Most of the audience was women--there were maybe five or ten men and something like fifty or sixty women. I believe feminism is important and that's another reason I support the pro-life cause as well as the beliefs.
Hang in there Pawel. But some of these questions might be better asked of your pastor or some trustworthy friends in your community, not of a bunch of internet-using random people like me & the rest of the WP crew!

I think it should mostly be done as a last resort, when not done because of rape, incest or danger to the mother. I think other options, such as adoption, should be considered if possible.
As for the legality of abortion, most restrictions won’t survive a Supreme Court battle, especially not the “heartbeat” laws or the one passed in Alabama. Those laws were meant to be a form of extreme slut-shaming, and were never about “protecting life.”
I find the terms “pro-life” and “pro-choice” to be misleading. If you oppose abortion, but not war or the death penalty, you are not pro-life. If you support abortion, but constantly shame people who want to be parents, you are not pro-choice.
I simply say pro- or anti-abortion.

Depends on the situation. The woman's life is in an unreasonable danger? Allowed. The fetus would only live a few days anyway/would be a complete vegetable if it was allowed to develope to a baby? Allowed. Result of rape? Allowed. Result of incest? Allowed, especially since that's usually also a result of rape. However, in any other situation, one must think of their choice very carefully. But in the end, it is the choice of the woman who is pregnant a no one else's.

Well said.
In fact, because I am a man, I see no reason that I (or any other man) should decide for women whether or not they have the right to reproductive autonomy. A woman's body is hers, and no one else's, so she should make the decision, and not some random group of men sitting in a prayer room, courtroom, or Congressional chamber.
What would you think about a random group of women sitting in a prayer room, courtroom, or Congressional chamber?

Seriously, though ... It just seems like an over-reach of authority for men to be deciding women's reproductive rights.

My question may be hypothetical but - would it be an over-reach in your opinion if the ones deciding other women's reproductive rights were also female?

After all, they would be deciding their own reproductive rights, as well.
Better yet, make it a referendum only among all female voters to decide the outcome once and for all.

Thanks, that's coherent.
I am a woman and I have been pregnant but I don't feel I could decide for other women. I wouldn't know what would be right.
Anyway, for me, the biggest question related to abortion is: when does a fetus become a human?

What about the men who support those rights?

I think they're fantastic. I get at least 30 a year....50 if it's a leap year.
