Prince Andrew Steps Back From Public Duties Over Ties To Jeffrey Epstein

Battling criticism over his association with convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, Britain's Prince Andrew said Wednesday that he is stepping away from his public duties "for the foreseeable future."

The announcement comes amid public scrutiny that has been building for months around the prince's ties to Epstein, who killed himself in a jail cell this summer.

For years, Andrew has denied an allegation that he had sex with a 17-year-old girl on multiple occasions in the early 2000s. That accusation drew fresh attention in August, when a federal appeals court released a trove of documents from a lawsuit filed by the accuser, Virginia Roberts Giuffre.

The announcement also comes days after the BBC broadcast an hourlong interview with Andrew for which he has been roundly panned over a perceived lack of sympathy for Epstein's victims.

On Wednesday, Andrew, who holds the title Duke of York and is the third child of Queen Elizabeth II, said the growing scrutiny has been a "major disruption" to the royal family and to the charities associated with him.

"Therefore, I have asked Her Majesty if I may step back from public duties for the foreseeable future, and she has given her permission," Andrew wrote in a statement posted to Twitter.

In the BBC interview, Andrew said he regrets having stayed at Epstein's Manhattan townhouse after Epstein had served time in prison for child sex offenses. But he denied the accusation that he had sex with Giuffre and said he couldn't recall ever having met her.

Giuffre says that when she was 15 and working at Mar-a-Lago, the resort owned by President Trump, she was recruited to be a masseuse by an Epstein associate. Giuffre says she met Andrew in 2001, when she was 17, and had sex with him on three occasions — in London, in New York and on Epstein's private Caribbean island — and that she was paid by Epstein.

The 59-year-old prince said during the BBC interview that he could not have had a sexual encounter with Giuffre on one occasion because he recalled having been at home that night after he and one of his daughters went to a Pizza Express restaurant in the U.K. earlier in the day.

Epstein took his own life in a Manhattan jail cell in August as he was awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. The two guards who were tasked with checking on Epstein in his special housing unit were indicted on Tuesday for allegedly allowing Epstein to go unobserved for some eight hours despite the facility's mandate that all inmates are to be checked on twice an hour.

In his statement Wednesday, Andrew said he continues to "unequivocally regret my ill-judged association with Jeffrey Epstein," adding, "His suicide has left many unanswered questions, particularly for his victims."

Andrew's friendship with Epstein has landed him in hot water before. He stepped down as Britain's trade envoy in 2011 after coming under severe criticism over the Epstein scandal.

Andrew now says he is willing to cooperate with any law enforcement agencies that would like to question him about his association with Epstein.

He was caught in lie after lie such as saying he has a disorder in which he does not perspire due disproved by an old photo as were a number of other lies. Not understanding that you can not get away with that today is pretty clueless .

Queen Elizabeth has had enough of Andrew's exploits being splashed over the media.

He's been kicked out of Buckingham palace. After losing all his sponsors and palace duties he will have have to live on am allowance from the Queen which is equivalent to $37,000 a year.

There is some doubt the pariah prince will be asked to give away his second daughter so the wedding may have to be held in Italy rather than Westminster abbey so he can show his face.

While Royalists may shed a tear for the fall from Grace of old Andrew, he at least has $57M in assets which he will likely have to liquidate. My guess he will become like Prince Edward (who eloped with the divorcee Wallace) and leave the UK forever.

Only get's worse for Andrew...he's now been caught using the n-word (that should endear him to Meghan) and he been caught meeting the madam of Epstein in Buckingham palace shortly after Epstein was arrested. It seems he;s been in damage control for a while.

The new image cast serious dount the photo is faked.

The Queen has further humiliated Andrew by cancelling his 60th birthday celebrations. My guess is they are waiting for the day when the police will arrest him on child sex charges

According to an former friend of Giselle Maxwell, Laura Goldman, Prince Andrew actually thought the underaged girls were Epstein's servants.

She said: “I think Prince Andrew is a dolt. He lives in a different world and may well have thought those girls were servants but obviously, they weren’t.
“He is part of a world of people who think they are entitled to get whatever they want. It’s a different reality to most people.

Watched the interview with Prince Andrew two nights ago, no doubt he thought he could charm his way through it with perfect manners. He was a horrible witness on his own behalf. From there I watched the Epstein investigation... This could get ugly, unless the Prince remains a shut-in for life.

British Royalty has the equivalent of an international diplomatic pass. When Prince Edward (Queen Elizabeth's uncle) met with the Nazis he likely shared intelligence and so should have been shot as a traitor. Instead he was exiled and lived his life cruising on luxury liners and yachts. I suspect Andrew will live out the remainder of his days as wealthy recluse.

Not only was Andrew spotted at a hookers-Halloween party with Epstein's paedophile madam (a relationship that now appears to be quite long and close) but Donald Trump seems to be also at the same party. The Three amigos :lol:

NY Prosecutors Request to Speak With Prince Andrew as Part of Epstein Probe: Source

It's a rare move to seek an interview like this through MLAT, officials say, and is focused on making sure the investigation is as thorough as possible.

The move was foreshadowed by U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman back in March when he would consider legal action after Prince Andrew's representatives had closed the door to an interview.

"Contrary to Prince Andrew's very public offer to cooperate with our investigation into Epstein's co-conspirators, an offer that was conveyed via press release, Prince Andrew has now completely shut the door on voluntary cooperation," U.S. Attorney Berman said, adding that his office is "considering its options."

Nicholas Biase, a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, told NBC News the office would decline to comment.

Federal investigators have been trying for months to speak with Andrew, a longtime friend of Epstein's who has been accused by one woman of sexual abuse.
