From my experience way back in 1977 to ‘81, the school authorities were a lot more open to you changing a class after a break.

Maybe even switch to an easier and less time-consuming class,

and maybe even run the pre-study approach in which you’re trying to stay one ahead. Say, two-thirds of study time on current and one-third on free learning and ever-so-casually making fun and growthful jumps ahead.
