Well, supposedly a remake is happening.

There hasn't been a new entry ever since 2012. :?

Given they keep referring to the series as "Silent Hills" and are basically just repeating rumours I wouldn't give this much credence. I don't think anyone on earth would trust Konami to run a remake of Silent Hill at this point, anyway. I'm a huge fan of the first two games but those games existed because a group of genuine artists were given free rein in the early 3D era when every game was different, nobody knew what worked and perhaps most importantly budgets were relatively small.

I heard that E3 was cancelled over the COVID-19 pandemic, by the way.

They'll likely make it an online only event, I suppose. It would be a dream come true to get Team Silent personnel back on board with this alleged reboot, as they wouldn't botch it up like those indie developers did when they made those outsourced sequels around 10 years ago.

Massive Silent Hill and Metal Gear fan here so am excited about these rumours. I agree the Team Silent games were by far the best (I did sort of like Homecoming though). If they could at least get Akira Yamaoka back to the soundtrack that would be amazing. It seems Konami haven't shown much interest in making games in recent years though.

The first Silent Hill is one of my all time favourite games. I'm not a bit interested in a reboot or remake though, they're just never as good!

I remember playing the demo which came with Metal Gear Solid as a kid - it truly terrified me! I love Silent Hill 2 to bits - primarily because of the soundtrack. Indeed, I think Silent Hill is the only game series I was drawn to play because of the soundtrack - I was lucky enough to go to the tour Akira Yamaoka did a few years ago where he played the songs from the games.

I agree re reboots/remakes although I did really like the Tomb Raider reboot even though I wasn't expecting to. I sort of lost interest in Silent Hill after Yamaoka left and none of Team Silent were left but thought that if anyone new could do something worthwhile with it then Hideo Kojima could and so was really disappointed when Silent Hills got cancelled.

It's kind of annoying how Capcom remakes their Resident Evil games, and cuts out just about everything from the originals, but leaves in plenty of action oriented stuff, as well as scripted boss encounters. PlayStation on Twitter are clearly paid shills.

Konami already remade Silent Hill, back in 2009. It was called Shattered Memories. You played the same guy, sure, but mostly, the game consisted of you using a flashlight and a mobile phone, and just running away from the monsters. It didn't feel like a proper game to me whatsoever.

I haven't gotten around to playing the Resident Evil 2 remake but it seems as though the Resident Evil 3 one that just came out hasn't gone down well. I completely forgot about Shattered Memories - I never played it at the time and still haven't. I find the premise quite interesting so maybe I will at some point. I think the remasterings of the first two Halo games took the right approach - keep the same gameplay but update the graphics.

I do miss the atmosphere created by the Silent Hill games and I haven't found that there are really any recent games which evoke the same vibe. I thought Alan Wake was quite Silent Hill-esque in a way and really enjoyed that.

Try both of the The Evil Within games. They're a lot like Silent Hill. The story, at first, is hard to understand...

With all this hearsay going around online, I'm sure something is going on with Konami and this franchise.

I just don't understand why so many fans want remakes of this, this, and this. It's time to take gaming into the future.

Akira Yamaoka from Team Silent has been working on a new game which has just been announced. Seems very Silent Hill-esque.
