I wrote the same thing in the school and college life forum but no one responded to it so i'm writing it here as well.

Sometimes I think to myself: are people getting stupider every generation? I'm in year 9 at high school, which is 13 - 14 year olds. A lot of people in my school are what you call "chavs". Most of them are stupid and the ones that arent dont use their intelligence and act stupid. Most of them are also bullies. They smoke, drink and do "other things" if you know what I meen. I hate the lot of them they lack the slightest sub-atomic particle of common sense.

Anyway, I sometimes think: if this is what the next adult generation is going to be like, then what is the world coming to?

Actually, according to standard IQ tests, each generation is getting smarter.

The WISC lll was just dumped in favor of the WISC lV. The tests had to be made "harder." (As an aside, other subtests were added to the WISC lV so its not a real good apples to apples comparasion any more.)

But I agree with you that society seems to be rewarding "stupid" behavior more and more. But that might be another thread....

When they get older, they will grow out of it.

I dont think they will grow out of it, There is this girl in my science and maths classes, which are the top sets , so she must be clever. Anyway She is 14 and she's already got a criminal record, She got done for assault a couple of weeks ago! and if that isnt bad enough she boasted about it. She has already lost her virginity, she smokes and drinks heavilly.

What I've just told you only scratches the surface, in lessons at school she has loud conversations across the room about rude things, then when the teacher tells her to stop she calls him a F***ing B****rd!

I don't understand people in general, but I find the chav subculture particularly bemusing.

I like the goth subculture and the skater, and the punk and the metalhead.

I'm sure a lot of them aren't really like that, but they act like that because of peer pressure. Once they grow older - out of high school - i'm sure most of them will change into more civilised citizens.

I sympathize.

In the States chavs come in at least two versions: guidos (so called because on the East Coast a lot of them are ethnic Italians - new money, no class) and wiggers (white kids who listen to rap/hip-hop and talk and act like what they think ghetto blacks are like).

Then below them are pikeys: in the States the white version of these are 'white trash' or 'trailer trash' (’cos they live in caravans or mobile homes).

Just had some of the latter as upstairs neighbours for a year. When they were told they were being evicted they flooded their place and the water ran into mine. When they finally left, abandoning their furniture and tins of food, and the owner of the house finally threw out their things, they got back by walking in one night (the owner left the door unlocked!), plugging all the drains and turning on all the taps, ruining my bathroom ceiling again!

A lot of people don't grow out of it - it's their 'culture'. But it does get better when you grow older/become an adult because unlike school you're not forced to interact with these people for the most part.

Sometimes I feel like I want to chuck them all in one room and kill them with a flamethrower.

I have a joke about them, it comes from a horrible racist joke but for them, it's quite fitting

Aargh, chavs..... abusive, brain-dead, Burberry-bling-socks tucked in pants clad, tasteless, clueless w*kers!

Here is an article that sums up what I have suspected about violent crime, especially outside the US.

This is also part of the reason I consider it imortant to aquire a few automatic weapons without Big Brother's knowledge.

I still think a lot of it is because parents are now often banned from smacking their kids when they're naughty. I don't believe in belting kids but sometimes a quick smack is better than trying to reason with them.

You can tell some kids are going to be trouble even when they're 2 years old because of the way they scream and carry on in the supermarket, the shops and even in church. There seems to be a lot more tolerance for bad behaviour right from the word go.

The girl who swears at the teacher should be expelled but then I suppose she'll just go to another school and plague the hell out the students and teachers there instead.

Yes. Evolution is thus far favoring stupid people. They breed better than smart people. All the s**t which would have been the difference between life or death has been made easy by smart people trying to make the world a better place for everyone. Now the playing field is friendly for people who AREN'T smart. Personally i think that in at least america the tests are just becoming worthless because our education system gets money based on results. As for the rest of the world i'm not sure.

I propose we organize the breeding of smart people. Not forcefully, just make an online dating page, and find as many intelligent people in the world we can and introduce them to it. The idea is to breed BETTER than dumb people. Not just kill off the dumb people. That obviously doesn't fly with the rest of the world. We could make pamphlets, and people could get pitch forks and make signs and protest against us. It'll be fun.
