I know that everyone hates the way their voice sounds. But it my case, others confirm how I feel every day. Every time I make a phone call I'm mistaken for a woman. I've been constantly called "ma'am" and asked if I'm my own mother or wife. In person, people always think I'm 10 years younger than I actually am, and I suspect my has is at least part of the reason why.

Back when I was actively attempting online dating, there were a few women who seemed interested as long as we were talking online, but lost interest as soon as they met me in person; and I wonder if hearing my weird voice had anything to do with that.

My friend read that sometimes when children are physically and/or sexually abused, their voices can "freeze" at the age that the abuse occurred at. I have not researched this myself and I don't know what research says about it, but I'm wondering if that is what happened to me.

Are you unintentionally talking in a higher pitch or something?

People with ASD can have issues with pitch and tone, and when I was a kid I used to talk in a slightly higher pitch since doing that felt different in my throat. Now I have to actively prevent myself from doing it as the habit never went away. I actually didn't fully notice it until I was older because adults didn't find it cute anymore and started asking me why I was talking like that. lol

That is not true.

I've heard the same thing. There used to be a radio and TV advice program called Loveline, and when women with very childish voices would call the show, the doctor was able to guess how old they'd been when they'd been abused or abandoned as children.

If I were in your situation (literally hating my voice), I'd consider exploring and resolving possible childhood trauma.

I'm male, and get called " madam " by telephone operators all the time too. Mine is not super low, and I guess phone's tend to be rather low-fi sound reproduction devices and I've had it said that I tend to be " polite " on the phone and that sounds more womanish.

The pitch of my voice is usually higher because I am usually quite conscious of what I say, verbal input and output malfunctioning's in my case, anxiety, people used to think and say I was a girl because I had long hair also and high pitched voice.

I spent a lot of teenage years self conscious of it and in self reflection of it. I just would not speak or would quickly reverse my own speech with a different voice.

Possibly due to abuse. Every time I tried to talk at home, big-bully-brother or dad who where part of the steroid-protein culture threatened to hit me with his massive muscles. Happened for a few years. That is why to this day I cut of talking half way through a sentence. Possibly made me more introverted than I already was. So I guess that tension and anxiety built up at home may have eventually made me more verbally anxious than I already was.

I do not deem it negative and it is something I do not pay much attention too anymore. Anti-psychotics in long term eventually filtered out severe anxiety and the verbal input and output thought loops.
