I had surgery to remove my gallbladder today. I went in first thing in the morning and now I am home.
The surgery was done laparoscopic, using only small incisions. At this point I am five hours post-op. I feel no pain and I am not on pain medicine. The operation went off without a hitch. I had several gallstones, the largest was the size of a golf ball.
Gallstones vary greatly in size. Some people may form one large stone, whereas others may have hundreds of tiny stones. Most commonly, gallstones are 5–10 mm in diameter. A golfball is about 43 mm in diameter, so mine is abnormally large.
I won't know if I am completely out of danger until about a week from now when the pathology report comes back. The surgeon is very hopeful because there were no visible exterior anomalies. But we will see.
