Just in.

Both the president and the first lady test positive for coronavirus.

An October surprise, indeed.

Well I guess that means there will be no more in person debates. Wonder if Biden will get COVID next.

Reminds me. Right wing new sources spread this 'rumor' earlier this year:

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/trump-theres-a-rumor-biden-will-use-coronavirus-to-skip-presidential-debates

Quote:
Trump: 'There's a rumor' Biden will use coronavirus to skip presidential debates

President Trump accused the Democratic Party of using the coronavirus pandemic as an excuse to avoid having Joe Biden go up against him in the 2020 presidential debates.

“Well, I hope so. I know they want to get out of the debate," Trump told the Washington Examiner's Salena Zito in an interview during the president's trip to the Owens & Minor Inc. distribution center in Allentown, Pennsylvania, on Thursday. "They’re saying they won’t be able to debate because of COVID-19."

"They said that they won’t be able to debate. Well, you know, I’d like to debate, as you know. I did well in the debates, or I wouldn’t be standing here. But no, I heard there’s a rumor — I don’t know if you guys have been seeing this — they don’t want to debate because of [the coronavirus], but COVID-19 is not the reason to not debate."

Of course team Trump has also claimed they may skip the debates as well earlier on.

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/trump-campaign-warns-president-could-skip-debates-if-moderator-picks-not-fair

Quote:
Trump campaign warns president could skip debates if moderator picks not ‘fair’

Top Trump campaign officials warned the nonpartisan presidential debate commission last month that President Trump could snub the debates if the moderator choices and process are not deemed “fair.”

The December conversation included Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale, campaign operating officer Michael Glassner, and Frank Fahrenkopf, the co-chairman of the Commission on Presidential Debates, according to the Washington Post.

The meeting happened as Trump attacked the commission on Twitter and considered whether he would sit out of the three debates scheduled for the fall.

Well logically it's harder to be president if one might actually die beforehand.

I really don't know what to think about this. Too many unknown variables.

Just to put things into perspective:

Here is the timeline for the UK prime minister, Boris Johnson:

27 March: Tested positive for coronavirus.
5 April: Admitted to hospital.
6 April: Admitted to intensive care.
9 April: Left intensive care.
12 April: Discharged from hospital.
26 April: Returned to work on Downing Street.

As I recall, Boris Johnson was effectively incapacitated from 6 April (perhaps even the day before) and did not return to work until 26 April, so for 3 full weeks he could not perform his duties as Prime Minister.

And Boris Johnson is 18 years younger than Donald Trump...

He could only tempt fate for so long. I'm more surprised it didn't happen sooner.

Get ready for a massive flood of conspiracy theories from the right to try and pin this on someone.

I'm not about to cry for trump but did we really need another curve ball right now?

If Trump gets ill (and so ill that he cannot carry out his responsibilities as president), then Mike Pence becomes acting president.

However, it is not known if Mike Pence himself has been exposed in a similar manner as Trump and/or Hope Hicks.

Trump apparently met with both Pence and secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin (1st and 5th in line in the presidential succession, respectively) this week.

And if *both* Trump and Pence become incapacitated, then Nancy Pelosi (! !!111oneoneone) becomes acting president.

This would be a political FUBAR of epic proportions just one month before Election day.

If he dies it will do the world a favour. I don't wish anyone dead but its hard to see a scenario where his continued presence among us is a positive thing.

I second that emotion. Maybe his cultists may suddenly take the pandemic seriously [for once]. This could save many lives no matter what happens. Sick as it makes me feel to say this, I'm more hopeful for this country as of hearing this news than I have been in a long time, again no matter what happens.

I had heard that a top WH aid tested positive and Trump is in quarantine but I have not heard Trump and first lady themselves have Covid.
