LaFollette is even more famous though for his dissertation, where he defends the claim, based on a reading of Nozick's "Anarchy, State, Utopia" that "to be Libertarian is to be unethical." It's a great read of a book, because he shows that libertarians are very wishywashy in their views.
I think Libertarians for the most part are closet Republicans, and vote that way.
Merle
My experience has been that it's usually the other way around. A lot of Republicans are closet Libertarians but don't want to be know as one of those looney 3rd party guys that want to legalize drugs.
that's interesting!
so. . how do they vote, then? surely not Democratic. . ..

Depends on the democrat. I voted for Kulongawski and Wyden, but a lot of times I just vote for "none of the above". There are always plenty of initiatives to vote on, this is Oregon after all.

My dad thinks everything is normal with me, he says I'm spoiled and preppy. He doesn't believe I have AS. I thought he was stupid and ignorant, but now I think he can't accept his daughter has "a problem" (he thinks all autistic spectrum disorders are something bad, like a curse).
Maybe that could be your case.

Salem is far from decent. There's nothing more than dial-up internet offered in my part of town (and that's only for PCs), the crime rate just two blocks down the street is horrible, unemployment is ridiculously high, the roads are in disrepair, and the entire state is falling apart.
Also consider I'm a right-winger, meaning that rather than being able to at least coexist with the lefties in the state, they think I'm some kind of nutcase for not wanting tax hikes or public transportation. Well, that and the fact I tell the lefties straight out there is evidence at least two popular politicians are sexual offenders (one committed child rape, the other committed sexual assault in college, and lied about it on the BAR exam).
The artistic and educational aspects aren't even as great as everyone makes them out to be. You're forgetting all the financial discrepancies (ahem... EMBEZZELMENT) which has gone on in the university system up here, as well as the sexual predators who are hired on to teach, and cannot be removed.

as a fellow Oregonian, and one who has lived here far longer than you have. . . I invite you to leave anytime you would like to go. Oh, yeah, sorry, you can't because you are still dependent on others to make those decisions for you. . .
looking forward to see your name on the ballot to change all these issues if you decide to stay!
cheers,
Merle
I'm not dependent on others! I've got a job, and I'm saving up some cash. It's just going to take a while to get enough stashed away to relocate to Idaho, Nevada, or Montana.
And I have thought about running for a political position (perhaps starting out as the mayor of a crappy little town like Monmouth). However, the fact I'd need to spend over $250k just to get the right connections, and have the political party I'd be running under dictate to me where I have to stand on what positions, and what to do like a bloody union, I'd rather just start a bloody coup.
Mmm.... human skulls make excellent ashtrays for Cuban cigars...
