So...yep!

I don’t have any family and can’t keep someone around long enough to be a friend. I’m about to lose another job...looks like I’m about to be homeless, again :(

I am so depressed.

I understand the panic very well. Why do you feel you will lose your job?

As this is your first post, welcome. I’m glad you decided to post.

What sort of work do you do?

Thank you.

I haven’t been able to keep a job. I was laid off due to covid and really should have been let go a long time before that.

I just started a new job in a call center for a major insurance company. I can do calls, I’ve done it successfully before, it’s the amount of material and style of training I can’t do-cognitively.

They also pulled us out of training two weeks early and threw us on the phones with no help.

I messed up every call today (legit this isnt me just being hard on myself) and I cried so much.

There is no way I will be able to keep up.

Has the boss called you in yet?

Maybe they know that people usually don’t do too well their first day.

I bet you will do better tomorrow.

I have not been called in. We are working remote.

But intellectually, cognitively, and speed wise I can’t keep up.

My brain can’t make the connections on which sop to pull up and each sop is a rabbit hole with endless links within.

Before I know it, I’m in Narnia and no idea how to get back.

Try to focus on each call.

Don’t beat yourself over the head.

It’s fine.

I never should have taken this job.

My ability to sustain employment has decreased substantially with age.

I feel like I’m more on the spectrum all the time. But I’m also so burnt out and not able to mask pretty much at all.

Being in constant turmoil due to unemployment and not stable living situations, I just don’t have any energy to mask.

I wish I had a minivan. I have a sedan. I’d just live full time in my minivan if I had one. My goal was to keep this job long enough to save up another down payment and trade my car in for something that’s more live-in friendly.

Don’t live in your car. It’s very hard in the winter.

You can’t live in your car in the NYC area.

I’m in the south, not nyc.

It sucks, it’s not comfortable, but it’s surviveable.

It’s not what I want, I just don’t know what else to do.

Welcome to WP. How long ago did you start your job?

I worked in fast food, restaurants, retail, etc for a while and with each new one I started I felt like I was in over my head, and thought for sure I'd be fired. There were so many things to remember to do for every little thing and my memory is terrible. It was very overwhelming to try and interact with the customers while also trying to recall each step needed for specific actions.

Somehow I managed to last much longer in those jobs than I would have thought possible. Gradually I began to remember the info/steps and felt more capable. I also figured out (after many years) how to take better notes that I could reference until I committed things to memory.

Another thing I learned (by watching NTs) is to be open with customers about being a new employee who's still learning. I thought I needed to not let them know they were dealing with a new person because I thought it wouldn't be professional and I am prideful. But saying "sorry, I'm still learning... Thank you for your patience..." etc gets good results in my experience.

It gets cold in most of the South, too.

Nashville is almost as cold as NYC—but it gets much less snow.

Please try to not be apprehensive about tomorrow.

Aurora is wiser than I am.

I’m much rather south than nc.

But I’m not going to quit-I’m just expecting to be fired. Or have a melt down and not be able to finish training. But I’m not going in and just quitting straight up.
