It's the absolute LAST word I EVER want to hear from others whenever they talk about me.

I don't know if any of you watched Teen Titans, but one episode had Raven say a very very relatable quote: "I'm not creepy. I'm just different". Just replace "creepy" with "cringe" and you have me.

They're basically calling someone different "cringe". What about everyone else? They're different too. Why not call THEM cringe as well, huh?

Maybe I'm not "cringe", as you claim. Maybe it's just YOU who can't tolerate harmless differences in traits and behavior. Did you ever once think of that? Or are you so indulged in your insipid ignorant opinions that you're actually convinced that anything you think are objectively 100% true? We Aspies may be socially inept but we're not stupid.

I always though cringe was a verb as in "That embarrassing thing made me cringe". I'm guessing if people are calling you it as an insult they mean you should be embarrassed of yourself? I might be too old to worry about this one. Not sure what the worst insult for would be. But you're totally right about you not being "cringe", more than likely anyone calling someone else "cringe" is feeling insecure themselves. Or they're just trying to be mean, which to me is a way worse thing to be!

Using a verb as a noun to insult someone only serves to reveal the ignorance of the person issuing the insult.

People who use/feel cringe tend to be one or two types:
1 Immature teenagers who are going through a phase that most NTs go through as they establish what is cool and uncool within their own generation.
2 Immature adults who haven't grown out of it and really need to

If you're an adult, distance yourself from both types.

If you're a teenager, just ignore them. They'll grow out of it. Be happy that you're mature, confident and cool enough to do this stuff you want to: the secret about a lot of NT teenagers is that they lack such confidence & just do things to seem cool rather than what they want in life.

Adults who say 'oh my god I saw someone on tik tok and they were my age' or 'oh my god I saw someone playing with a model train set lol how funny' are the immature ones and they eventually end up really limiting their lives to being nothing apart from chasing the opposite gender, watching a set amount of shows on tv, listening to the stuff they're 'supposed to', getting drunk, fights and mates*. It's sad in a way.

* If someone wants a life like that fair enough except the fights part. What I'm talking about is being pressured to live in a specific way just to avoid 'cringe'.

I think the last time I even used the word "cringeworthy" was in describing the actions of one of my redneck cousins after he handed me his beer and said, "Y'all gotta watch me do this!"

The use of “cringe” has expanded greatly in the last 10 year.

That would have described women’s feelings towards me circa 1982. I knew I had to change my overall philosophy.

Still...ignore the idiots who call you things like “cringeworthy.” KT described the people who use that term well.

I feel old and out of loop 8O never heard the word cringe used like this. I didn't really understand what y'all were talking about till I looked it up. It sucks you're having to deal with this.

I agree with what others have said, just ignore them. You'll find people who understand you and accept you. As for the Fault Finders, don't give them any of your time, they don't deserve it. Hold your head up high and try to enjoy being you.

you should tell the girls who are psychologically abusing you by calling you a Cringe
that....

"yere, your right! you should call me a "cringe", as you make me cringe every time you open your mouth and say something intentionally sadistic and immature! I am sorry to realise your not as intelligent or mature as people are generally at your age!"

name calling without cause is simply bullying
bullies often do so for various reasons

sometimes best just to identify what type of people they are, see them for what they are no matter how beautiful they may look on the outside, and then leave them. Go find some people who aren't jerk offs.

I saw your age is 21...

So likely they're being a bit immature for their age but they'll grow out of it.

If you're in uni, hopefully they'll figure it out pretty soon as they learn what a broad place the world really is.

If not then hopefully life will give them experiences which again - teach them what a broad place the world really is.

One thing which helped me realise how relative it all is is learning ethics at college.

I was going to give an example of this but realised that despite it not being immoral imo, it's likely to get banned on here because it's 'gross'. Let's just say the world is a huge place with loads of people doing things which might be 'cringe' but are no more wrong than things which aren't deemed that way by our society in the present moment.

I have seen the word cringe being used to refer to posts on social media or videos and I never understood the meaning of it. It looks random to me like a word you can just say for anything.

Merriam-Webster is your friend!

cringe (intransitive verb)

1: to recoil in distaste
2: to shrink in fear or servility
3: to behave in an excessively humble or servile way
4: to draw in or contract one's muscles involuntarily (as from cold or pain)

But I don't understand how this applies to situations in context this word is being used. Where is the cringe? I don't see any cringe, it doesn't seem to fit the literal definition.

It is another one of those mis-appropriations of words that allows one to fit in with the "In Group".  Sort of like how it was when "gay" came to mean anything someone in the In Group did not like.

I had stopped relying on dictionaries once I realized people don't stick to the definition. Look at "stupid" for example. It literally means lack of intelligence but most of the times it does not mean this anymore. Even if you use it correctly on a disabled person with a low IQ, people will think you had insulted them and think of you as a bigot and an jerk and ableist. Same as if you say children are stupid. That is technically correct and using the dictionary to defend yourself would make it look like you are using a Argumentum ad dictionarium.
