Piers Morgan leaves "Good Morning Britain" after Meghan and Prince Harry comments

British television personality Piers Morgan is leaving "Good Morning Britain" following comments he made about Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, ITV announced Tuesday. Morgan has been a constant critic of the couple, drawing backlash from viewers and an investigation by a media watchdog.

"Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain," the broadcaster said in a statement. "ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add."

Morgan, however, appeared on "Good Morning Britain" on Monday, calling Meghan's comments lies. "I'm sorry, I don't believe a word she says," he said. "I wouldn't believe her if she read me a weather report."

Both viewers and Morgan's own co-hosts condemned his actions. While Morgan clarified his comments the next morning, saying he believes suicide and mental health are important issues to be treated by professionals, he later stormed out of the studio after fellow presenter Alex Beresford called his treatment of Meghan "diabolical."

Earlier, Britain's Office of Communications said it would be investigating Morgan's comments under its "harm and offense rules" after it received more than 40,000 complaints.

I saw a clip of him storming off the stage.

I've never liked Piers Morgan. He used to be on American news channels (CNN, maybe?) and I didn't miss him when he left. I bet the British audience won't miss him, either.

He's an arrogant snob.

He took over Larry King's job for awhile after he retired. I think Great Britain was happy he came over here, and most of America was glad when he went back.

It's called resigning/getting sacked.

This site is obsessed with cancel culture.

He's old enough that it's practically a retirement.

Old enough that he shouldn't have been hitting on Meghan. I mean it's not Randy Andy territory but it's still inappropriate.

His age is in his late 50’s;
His culture, home, school, sports,military service, was focused on respecting/obeying/ admiring the Royal Family.
He is the product of his training and conditioning, his whole life.
Ms. Markham has not absorbed that this attitude is for real, NOT an act for the camera.

The only help for it is to have diversity bleed into the lily-white culture, with the younger generation pushing it. You know what happened when Matt Lauer left the Today show in a walk of shame? Two women took his anchor job! You are seeing women all over the news these days, and that's a great thing.

He wasn't fired. He ragequit after being asked to apologize for using his platform to harass his ex.

It's hard to stoke outrage if the topic is 'Piers Morgan quits'.

Saying he got cancelled is feeding into the right's obsession with Culture Wars. Everything is Culture Wars.

It's code that tells someone that this only happened because of unhinged leftists and not possibly for any other reason. Like that he's a thin-skinned fossil who can't comprehend that the royal family isn't morally perfect.

Canceling in its current incarnation means firing a person for opinions considered offensive or sensitive. Meghan is lying and making it up is an opinion that is sensitive in the UK for obvious reasons.

The expansion from cancelling events to canceling people seems to have started as a synonym of unfriending people on social media. It was people on the left not conservatives that started to using the term in a similar manner as “deplatforming”. As mentioned above the right has turned it around on the left to some effect, similar to “woke”.

I can emphasize with the left’s frustration with how this has played out. After all I am often bitching of how the left has effectively weaponized “racism” and “privilege” and other terms.
