We have this problem with people begging us for money constantly because of our business, the fact we own a business and a big house with sports cars is like an inevitable magnet for narcissistic behaviour from people.
Oh, YES! Just having a modest house and a minivan or two seems to attract beggars from all over the family tree.Lunella wrote:
These days we literally pretend we are broke just to avoid some of these people because the hassle isn't worth it. We donate clothes and £5k worth of rice to the actual desperately poor people in Pakistan, to the people who are actually totally on their arse otherwise I don't see the point donating to people over here because all they want to do is use and abuse.
We already support people who can no longer support themselves -- someone was recently surprised that we were NOT residents of a local retirement home because we spend so much time over there! Supporting people who are fully capable of supporting themselves just seems immoral somehow. The fact that they may have once held salaried positions does not give them good reason to turn down ordinary hourly positions. It is a sad world we live in when you have to be careful of who you give your precious empathy to. The statistics for narcissism/psychopathy comes to about 2 billion of the population. 2 Billion people who are unable to feel empathy, scary.
It is good to share some of the wealth but I agree it does feel immoral giving it to people who could actually do something about it, where you have people who desperately cannot help themselves and these are the ones worthy of the donations imo.
You should see giving out donations of rice in Pakistan, there was about 3 thousand people barging through our grounds gates they even broke the gates off the hinges they were that desperate for food and I'm talking massive 6 ft metal gates. It's an incredibly humbling experience and really makes you value the situation you're in because at least it's not that. They were like fighting each other over the food and the kids were fighting like the adults. Sad times we live in.
