Perhaps I am just weird, but isn't WP just a form of socialising?

It's a waste of time for me. I find it both boring and exhausting.

Yes a high percentage of WP is mere socializing. :) Personality I'm trying to do less of it
and make more posts thats have general utility. But this post was pretty much pure socialising. :D

YEAH!! !! A big thank you to aimeeandbeatles.

I don't mind going out with friends to see a movie or a show. I don't mind going out with friends if we are heading for an outside event. I even don't mind going out with friends if we have a trip planned.

However.........

I don't see the point in going out with friends to a bar somewhere, drinking expensive drinks and eating VERY expensive bar snacks whilst breathing in other peoples tobacco smoke. All of this is accompanied by idle banal chit-chat about nothing in particular whilst some of my (single) friends unsuccessfully try to pick up girls. This is not my idea of a fun evening.

I guess it depends on what kind of "socializing" you're talking about. Chit chat is a big waste of time to me. Even though I get lonely sometimes, I just can't stand talking or hearing about pointless things. @__@ Do you ever notice people basically just reiterate the same things back and forth in conversations?

For many NTs, socialising is networking - a way to make contacts to better their chances at work.

I hate inane chit chat.

I hate socializing too for that main reason. I just don't get why it's important to do small talk, etc. About the only time I can really get interested in it is when it comes to problem solving of any kind. I don't really care about the situation, though the details are needed to figure out a solution, but it seems people don't generally want a solution-they just want to gripe and pretend they want an answer or ideas on what to do. They also tend not to want to look at an entire situation rather than just their version of it. /sigh

I think you people are confusing socializing with shallow, irrelevant, stupid talk (usually with shallow, stupid people) that is a waste of time indeed. Socializing needn't be boring and pointless. Eg: today I had lunch with my new colleagues, and the conversation was about the food we were eating and our impressions on it, our desired travel destinations, our previous jobs, etc. It was interesting... While at my previous job I used to go crazy from the ridiculous chit-chat, and I was admonished by Human Resources for not participating in it much.

It is compulsory socializing that boils my blood. The one thing I hated as a kid was
being forced to attend another child's birthday party*. Later as an adult people tried to engage
me in idle chit-chat about sports or workplace politics or gossip.
Here on WrongPlanet I can pick and choose which conversation I want to participate in, and
choose who or what topic do I respond to.

*Read Kassiane's article about this.

Depends on who i`m with..... Strangers is what i would call a living hell in the middle of a nightmare whereas socializing with CLOSE friend and family is thoroughly enjoyable. Private parties are pretty good as well but a bar, pub, club etc HELL NO :x

I guess that a typical AS trait, despise that thats far and love that thats near.....

I agree that it is roundabout and inefficient. That's what makes it so hard to understand, it is overly complex.

The more I study it, the more I realise the NTs have the ‘skills’ without necessarily being fully aware of what they are doing. It is not their fault.

My pet peeve is the 'How are you' that people throw out all over the place. The only socially acceptable answer is, 'Fine,' regardless of how you actually are, and 99.9% of the time the person asking the question doesn't care if you're lying or not.

I hate small talk and a good majority of all socializing.

Most people nowadays ramble on and on about what they have, do, done, etc... Without letting you get a word in edge wise.

I agree here...the only other time socializing does not bother me is when i'm playing cards...I kinda need others around to do that...

Or looking at me strangely when I say something.

I do enjoy socialising to a degree but it's got to be with people who know me and my few eccentricities.
