I have noticed that if I have music playing on my ipod with headphones- even if it's just in one ear, that I am able to keep my cool so much better and am so much more relaxed when my kids are driving me up the wall. If I'm on overload and feeling like I'm gonna explode, all I have to do is take a little time to chill out and listen to some of my favorite, more relaxing music. It also helps me be more at ease out in public places and also when I drive. It has to be the right kind of music though, msic that is more mellow.

Anyone else use music in ths way?

I use music to soothe me and put me in relaxed frame of mind. I have the satellite TV music channel playing
music all night long, at 3:00 AM it cuts out while my receiver is being updated, when this happens I wake up
automatically. Time to start another day.

Music used to center me but now it just distracts me unless I'm actively listening to it. My favorite way is to put it on headphones and play a repetitive comp game like Tetris or Zuma while listening to it, or drive on the highway to it. (I usually turn the radio off if I'm driving in a city.) I'll often put songs on repeat for days at a time, annoying anyone else within listening distance.

I also HATE listening to music with "just one ear" (i.e. one headphone) because I get totally disoriented and sick to my stomach. I wonder why.

Yes, music is very centering for me. It takes me out of whatever is distressing me. I think it helps me focus on certain task better, too.

I agree it has to be the right music at the right time, though. And I, too, can listen to the same song over and over for days.

Someone else's music I'm overhearing can be quite another story, though!
