I'm so obsessed with tarot and cartomancy that I actually looked up four songs to best describe the Queens of Hearts. Diamonds, Clubs, and Spades.

This story is mentioned in two of my three books on cartomancy. That was one clever soldier!

Yes. Whether he believed in that stuff, or not, he was certainly good at thinking on his feet!

Btw did you know that each court card is named after either a historical, biblical, or mythological figure?

King of Hearts: Charlemagne
King of Diamonds: Julius Caesar
King of Clubs: Alexander the Great
King of Spades: David

Queen of Hearts: Judith
Queen of Diamonds: Rachel
Queen of Clubs: Argine
Queen of Spades: Pallas

Jack of Hearts: LaHire
Jack of Diamonds: Hector
Jack of Clubs: Sir Lancelot
Jack of Spades: Ogier the Dane

Pretty neat huh?

Didnt know that. I knew that there were subtle differences - like there is one eyed jack, and a two eyed jack.

Yup and the King of Hearts being referred to as 'The Suicide King' because he appears to be stabbing his own sword through his head.

Other unique things I noticed about the cards themselves:

The King of Diamonds is the only king holding an axe instead of a sword.

The Queen of Spades is the only Queen holding a royal scepter.

The Jack of Hearts is the only Jack holding a flower (he appears to hold a lily while the four queens I think are holding roses.)
